Pre-Trade Deadline Top 25

What can I say, I was bored. Hopefully there will be a lot of additions in the upcoming weeks.

1.) Orlando Arcia- I would like to see a long, hot streak.

2.) Josh Hader- Come on Milwaukee, give him a shot!

3.) Isan Diaz- Huge power numbers.

4.) Corey Ray- He is going to hit!

5.) Brett Phillips- Diaz and Hader flew by.

6.) Devin William- Great numbers, future #2 or #3.

7.) Trent Clark- Waiting for him to do some "special."

8.) Kodi Medeiros- Live arm, secondary pitches are improving.

9.) Jacob Nottingham- Showing what he truly is after a slow start.

10.) Marcos Diplan- I debated rating him higher.

11.) Gilbert Lara- Based on potential.

12.) Tyrone Taylor- See Lara.

13.) Cody Ponce- Healthy and ready to go. Future #2 or #3?

14.) Jacob Gatewood- Not as raw as he was a year ago.

15.) Nathan Kirby- The potential is there; get healthy for 2017.

16.) Lucas Erceg- Going to be a top 10 next season. Wish he was at Wisconsin now.

17.) Clint Coulter- Needs to be a second half star.

18.) Demi Orimoloye- Soley based on age and athleticisim.

19.) Jorge Lopez- Free him from Colorado!

20.) Freddy Peralta- Debated switch with Kirby.

21.) Miguel Diaz- Live arm.

22.) Wendell Rijo- Don't know anything about him.

23.) Michael Reed- Was hoping he'd earn a call up.

24.) Victor Roache- The power is still intriguing.

25.) Monte Harrison- See Demi O.

Though the T-Rats aren't winning as many games as I expected with their line-up, it has been a total blast watching these guys this season. (Harrison, Miguel Diaz, Freddy Peralta, Gatewood, Diplan, Trent Clark, Devin Williams, and my personal favorite, Isan Diaz)

IMO, any Top 25 list needs to have Brandon Woodruff on it - and I'd probably put him around #15 on my list right now. Despite some early struggles at AA after the promotion, he is flat dealing now in July and was topping out at 98 last night.

Overall though, a pretty good list. Not sure if I'd rank Devin Williams that high, and I'd probably pull Roache off the list when adding in Woodruff.

Since this thread seems to serve a additional purpose to actively campaign for players prior to the midseason prospect list vote, I posted this here.

More positive press for Woodruff!

The Fringe Five: Baseball’s Most Compelling Fringe Prospects

by Carson Cistulli - July 15, 2016

Brandon Woodruff, RHP, Milwaukee (Profile)

Here’s how the author spends roughly half his time while preparing to write this weekly post:

Identify pitcher with excellent statistical indicators.

Read report about same pitcher’s underwhelming stuff.

Repeat.

It isn’t either daring or revelatory to note that the minor leagues possess a number of pitchers — many of them products of collegiate programs — who are able to excel against less experienced hitters by virtue more of guile than arm speed. On-again, off-again major leaguer Tommy Milone is the Platonic Ideal of this archetype, but there are a number currently occupying the tops of minor-league leaderboards, too. James Reeves of the Yankees, for example. And Matt Cooper of the White Sox. Recent Pirates debutant Steven Brault represents another such case. It’s totally possible that all three will have major-league careers, but it’ll require something rare.

Which is what makes right-hander Brandon Woodruff such a rare and beautiful bird. In 100.0 innings this year, spread about evenly between High- and Double-A, Woodruff has recorded strikeout and walk rates of 26.1% and 7.3%, respectively. Those are excellent statistical indicators. And where it would be reasonable — given precedent — to expect a report about his underwhelming stuff, this appears instead, courtesy Dan Farnsworth from his Brewers organizational list this winter:

One Brewers source put Woodruff’s status best: his numbers don’t do his talent justice. He still has plenty of potential with a quality delivery and stuff, and has had stretches of real dominance in the past year and a half. He will start in either High-A or Double-A, and the Brewers are hoping this is the year he really puts himself on the map, with his ongoing oblique issue from last year hopefully behind him.

Woodruff has talent, sitting in the mid- to upper-90s towards the end of his most recent start. And now his numbers are doing him justice. His most recent numbers, in particular: over his last two appearances, the 23-year-old has recorded a 16:2 strikeout-to-walk ratio against 46 batters.

OOC, what about Braden Webb don't you like that you didn't even consider him? 128 K in 102 innings in the SEC is impressive to me to go along with 2 potential plus pitches.

Good call on Braden Webb. I actually did consider him (and should have put him on my "others considered" list), but I left him off due to the fact that he hasn't pitched an inning yet of minor league baseball. But again, probably should have had him on the list of other guys that I considered for my Top 30.
