Pensacola News Journal on Taylor Jungmann --

While Rookie Davis provided a strong outing, his opposing number, starter Taylor Jungmann, kept the Wahoos off balance with 12 strikeouts in his four and two-thirds innings of work.

The Shuckers tallied 18 strikeouts on the afternoon, but the Wahoos still found a way to extend their streak.

Pensacola’s Brandon Dixon struck first with a two-run double in the third inning. Zach Vincej then led off the fourth with a triple and came home on a Juan Duran sacrifice fly.

That damage and a high pitch count proved just enough to run Jungmann from the game, even with his impressive strikeout total.

“That curveball is really good and he had trouble with his fastball command, and we were able to get a few fastballs ahead in the count,” Manager Pat Kelly said. “Once we got to his breaking ball, boy, he was tough.”

Catching up from Sunday --

Arizona Indians 8, Arizona Brewers 7

Trailing 7-0 after the 7th inning stretch, the A-Crew scored exactly seven times to tie it up in that one frame. Then, the eventual winning run scored the very next-half inning on a passed ball of all things.

Have to love rookie ball, two of the three outs made in the big inning were on pickoff plays.

AZL Brewers Bottom of the 7th

Mario Feliciano triples (1) on a sharp line drive to right fielder Hosea Nelson. Mario Feliciano scores. Throwing error by second baseman Jorma Rodriguez.

Maryvale Box Score

Soon to be 18 years old, 24th round Connecticut HS RHP Michael Gonzalez made his pro debut, sandwiched among three rehabbing minor league veterans. It was brief and a bit rough, not all his fault --

AZL Indians Top of the 2nd

Hosea Nelson doubles (3) on a fly ball to left fielder Ignacio Otano.

Ulysses Cantu strikes out swinging.

Nolan Jones strikes out swinging.

I was going to comment about being a recent HS grad, going away 3000 miles for this and such, but young men and women are heading off to boot camp this summer as well, so the baseball comparison pales there. Yes, life in Maryvale is daunting, and we wish Mr. Gonzalez (and his likely anxious parents) well.

Stokes Leads The Way in Wisconsin Win

Rattlers beat Peoria 5-3

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

Troy Stokes, Jr. went 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBI for the Rattlers on Monday afternoon. (Wisconsin Timber Rattlers/Ann Mollica)

Wisconsin Boxscore

I snuck home for lunch hoping to get a chance to get a good look at Trey Supak but instead saw Wisconsin's bottom of the 3rd. Supak threw 68 pitches but only 39 for strikes which is why he reached his pitch count after 4. He was followed by Devin Williams who isn't throwing enough strikes either, taking 89 pitches to get through his 4 innings himself. I don't believe I've mentioned it but I really like that Time Warner cable is piping in Chris' broadcast with their video, I much prefer Mehring to Bob Brainerd.

Once again Troy Stokes (2-3,HR,BB) and Mitch Ghelfi (3-4) led the way offensively, I've been posting essentially the same thing every other day in a different way for a while now. Mitch has multi hit games in 5 of his last 10 games and Stokes in 4 of his last 10.

Betancourt, Wang help Shuckers to 3-1 win, ending losing streak

Wei-Chung Wang tossed his fourth straight quality start on Monday

Biloxi Shuckers

Javier Betancourt delivered a two-run double in the seventh inning for the Shuckers, providing a 3-1 lead. (Jason Clark)

Biloxi Boxscore

The Shuckers were outhit managing just 6 hits, didn't play good defense as they committed 2 errors, but they out-pitched Pensacola for the win. Wei-Chung Wang pitched 6 statistically unimpressive yet effective innings, while Brooks Hall, Stephen Peterson, and Tayler Scott combined to pitch 3 scoreless innings including a very eventful 9th.

Jacob Nottingham had been hitting .148 over his last 10 games so hopefully his 2-4 effort kick starts his July. Angel Ortega hasn't hit better than .242 in any season, and better than .231 for any full season team, so i'm completely unsure what to make of his 2016 campaign (currently hitting .282 for Biloxi). I'm going to wait and see what he does next year before jumping to the other side of the fence on him. When he was in WI Chris Mehring repeatedly pointed out during game broadcasts that many in the organization thought he was the best defensive SS in the organization.

Yes that was former Brewer farmhand Barrett Astin pitching in relief and giving up the game winning hit. Of his 26 appearances this season almost all have been in relief, he does have 5 starts under his belt this season though.

Derby tosses eight innings, helps Manatees to victory

By Donald Rieber, Jr., 27 Outs Baseball

Brevard County Box Score

Manatees break up the losing streak tonight. Longest outing from a Brevard County starter this season with Bubba Derby lasting 8.0 innings. A pair of hits from the newly acquired Wendell Rijo (2-for-4) as well as Clint Coulter (2-for-4, 2B). Plenty of other performances worth reviewing in the game story and box score/game log links.

Final, Game Two: Billings 10, Helena 0

Well, that stinks...

Mustangs rout, sweep Brewers in twinbill

Ryan Collingwood, Helena Independent Record

Demi Orimoloye sent an Adrian Rodriguez pitch over the left-field wall in the first game of the Helena Brewers' twinbill with the Billings Mustangs Monday night.

VIDEO: Watch the HR at the 01:00 minute mark

Rodriguez proceeded to retire the next 15 Helena hitters after yielding the second-inning blast.

That's where the positives stopped for Milwaukee's rookie affiliate.

Billings proceeded to score 18 unanswered runs over the course of the doubleheader at Kendrick Legion Field, handling the Brewers 8-2 before blanking them 10-0 in the nightcap.

The Brewers (10-14), who have now lost 13 of their last 18 games, combined for a meager seven hits in the two seven-inning games. The doubleheader Monday was due to a rainout Sunday afternoon.

Conversely, the Pioneer League-leading Mustangs (14-10) tallied 22 hits and took advantage of the Brewers' four errors.

Helena had a 2-0 cushion after two innings of Game 1 -- a Nathan Rodriguez RBI and Orimoloye's homer gave the Brewers the early edge -- before Billings scored the game's next eight runs.

Starting hurler Nash Walters, a 2015 third-round draft pick making his Helena debut, didn't give up a run through three innings. He gave up a two-run homer to Colby Wright in the fourth, however, to knot the game.

Billings then teed off on on reliever Shawn Clowers, who gave up four hits and four runs in the fifth inning and was handed the loss.

Walters finished the night giving up two runs, three hits, three walks and struck out four in four innings of work.

Adrian Rodriguez earned the win for Billings in Game 1 after after giving up just one run and one hit in five innings.

Helena Game One Box Score

It's a couple of sad boxes for sure -- Gilbert Lara can add seven errors in 19 games to his .462 OPS...

Helena Game One Game Log

In the second game, the Mustangs put three runs on Brewers starter Cameron Roegner -- also making his Pioneer League debut -- in three innings. Mitch Trees helped Billings add seven more runs, finishing the night with with three RBI including a solo homer in the seventh.

Wes Wilson paced the Brewers offensively, going 2 for 3.

The Brewers begin a seven-game road trip on Wednesday at Idaho Falls. They return to Helena July 21 for a four-game series against Idaho Falls.

NOTES

Right-handed pitchers Trey Supak and Zack Brown were recently promoted to Single A Wisconsin. Supak (1.29 ERA) was a second-round pick in 2015 as part of the Pirates organization. Brown (13.50 ERA) was a fifth-round pick in June...Three pitchers were called up to Helena from the Arizona League this week, including Walters, Roegner (22nd round, Bradley) and Matt Smith (36th round, Georgetown).

Shortstop Trever Morrison made professional debut Monday. Morrison, an Oregon State product, was a 12th round draft pick.

Helena Game Two Box Score

Was really hoping the Brewers would have drafted this big power high school RHP from my hometown area, even emailing the Milwaukee Northeast scout at the time - but he went to the Reds in the 13th round in 2014. After two summers in Arizona, is pitching well in a relief role with Billings.

Maryvale Box Score

Three Brewer pitchers combined to walk none (one HBP) and strike out 13, wow; be sure to stop by the box score and congratulate them!

Maryvale Game Log

Three multi-hit performances, one golden sombrero, still early for this big roster to read too much into things, but obviously still worth your review overall.

Troy Stokes has been back to playing like Troy Stokes now 100% healthy. See a lot of Michael Reed in his game & will probably always fly under radar like Reed.

With these Wisconsin kids I'm only following 2nd half stats now. They are all 20 & went through adjustment periods & dealt with the usual weather issues to start. They are all coming around! Gatewood has 5bbs already in July!

Proud member since 2003 (geez ha I was 14 then)

FORMERLY BrewCrewWS2008 and YoungGeezy don't even remember other names used
