Matt Harvey out for year with shoulder surgery

Brewer Fanatic Contributor

The Mets Matt Harvey will undergo surgery to alleviate thoracic outlet syndrome in his right shoulder. He will miss the rest of the season.

This affects the Brewers in a roundabout way in that the Mets have been discussed as a landing spot for Lucroy, with a Mets starting pitcher a possible return candidate. This probably dims such ideas, as the Mets will need all their arms, including Wheeler, who's supposed to be back in the 2nd half of the year, and a guy often mentioned as a trade candidate.

A Mets deal would likely have to involve a third team if the Brewers wanted controllable young pitching.

This could be bad news for Harvey's career in general. From what I've read, it seems this condition has prematurely ended the career of many pitchers.

Chris Young had it and is now better than ever. Wainwright or Carpenter had it. I remember a couple guys who've had it that it seemed to end their career but it certainly doesn't seem like much more of a career killer than TJ.

It's pretty rare for guys so young to go through this.

It seems like something that they haven't perfected the surgery for quite yet.... as guys keep having recurring symptoms.
