Posted June 28th --

He wasn't performing well in 2016 at AA, but still surprised to see LHP Mike Strong, not long ago a member of the Brewers' 40-man roster, released by his home state Twins back on the 20th.

Strong just signed with the independent St. Paul Saints of the American Association.

The June 21st DSL Angels at DSL Brewers game had been rained out, so the teams played two seven-inning games at the Brewers' complex on Thursday.

Final, Game One: DSL Angels 2, DSL Brewers 0

DSL Brewers Game One Box Score

There was one hit total in the game, and it belonged to the Angels. So yes, a no-hitter. Newcomer RF Antonio Perez did draw two walks.

On the Brewer mound, 20-year-old 6'4" RHP Johan Dominguez continued his outstanding debut season. He's been the one guy on the roster who has said "hey, look at me" with his numbers.

T: 1:17.

Wow, don't blink!

Final, Game Two: DSL Brewers 4, DSL Angels 2

After last night's 0-7 mess and the way tonight's early games are shaping up, any win looks good...

DSL Brewers Game Two Box Score

18-year-old Venezuelan rookie RHP Henry Medina has gone at least five innings in each of his last four appearances, no small feat in this league, one earned run in 5.2 innings here.

DSL Brewers Game Two Game Log

An immediate removal after a HBP is never good. Given the young raw arms, I'm always shocked we don't see these types of removals more often -- scary, hopefully precautionary for the 17-year-old.

DSL Brewers Bottom of the 5th

Javier Castillo called out on strikes.

Bryan Torres flies out to right fielder Cristian Gomez.

Aaron Familia hit by pitch.

Offensive Substitution: Pinch-runner Luis Avila replaces Aaron Familia.

Bryan Connell strikes out swinging.

Five pitchers on the active AA Biloxi staff (and they're all pitching well) were picked up after being released by other organizations, four within the 2016 season -- RH closer Stephen Kohlscheen, LHP Brett Lee, RHP's Gage Smith and Tayler Scott, and RHP Junior Rincon (released by Marlins in January 2014).

Chad McClanahan, Gabriel Garcia, and Parker Bean are all making their pro debuts tonight for the Baby Brewers.

Edit: Add Mario Feliciano to that list. Could have sworn he'd seen game action already, but his stats page says otherwise.

McClanahan went Yard on his first AB. Nice.

Garcia doubled in his first pro at-bat.

30th round RHP Dalton Brown of Texas Tech is in, that's five pro debuts (so far) for a July 7th game, pretty unique.

Tyrone Taylor extended his hitting streak to eight games with a 2-for-4 night on Thursday. (Michael Krebs)

Biloxi Boxscore

Postives... well the bullpen pitched 6 clean innings though Gage Smith did allow all of Jorge Ortega's inherited runners to score in the 2nd.

Nick Ramirez' 2 hit game pushed his AVE back up over .200.

Stashak Stifles Rattlers

Cedar Rapids shuts out Wisconsin 1-0

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

Wisconsin Boxscore

Jordan Yamamoto was outstanding allowing just 1 run over 7 innings of 7 strike out ball, unfortunately the rest of the team was not as Juan Ortiz collected the Rattlers' only hit.

Final: Daytona 12, Brevard County 3

DeMuth has four-hit night in loss to Daytona

By Donald Rieber, Jr., 27 Outs Baseball

***

Brevard County Box Score

The 1-2 punch in the Manatees lineup, Corey Ray and Blake Allemand, were a combined 0-for-10. Dustin DeMuth faired much better against Daytona pitching going 4-for-4 with a walk. The only extra base hit for the Manatees was Clint Coulter's double, he finished 1-for-3 with a walk.

Not much to brag about on the pitching side of things as the Manatees hurlers combined to allow 14 hits and 7 walks (not to mention too many runs).

Third baseman Blake Allemand was assessed one error during the game and according to Donald's game notes was credited a second error following the game when a 5th inning Daytona hit was switched to an error.

Brevard County Game Log

Down 12-0 in the 9th the Manatees mounted a rally effort... but unfortunately it fell 9 runs short.

Brevard County Bottom of the 9th

  • Pitching Change: Jeremy Kivel replaces Conor Krauss.
    Dustin Houle hit by pitch.
Jose Cuas walks. Dustin Houle to 2nd.
Malik Collymore singles on a ground ball to right fielder Aristides Aquino. Dustin Houle to 3rd. Jose Cuas to 2nd.
    Corey Ray strikes out swinging.
Blake Allemand grounds out to pitcher Jeremy Kivel. Dustin Houle scores. Jose Cuas to 3rd. Malik Collymore to 2nd.
Dustin DeMuth singles on a line drive to right fielder Aristides Aquino. Jose Cuas scores. Malik Collymore scores.
Elvis Rubio walks. Dustin DeMuth to 2nd.
Pitching Change: Nolan Becker replaces Jeremy Kivel.
    Clint Coulter strikes out swinging.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Final: Arizona Brewers 7, Arizona White Sox 3

Weather: 103 degrees, clear.

Wind: 3 mph, Out to CF.

Maryvale Box Score

Earlier in this thread, you saw the list of five Brewers who made their professional debut in this game, congrats to all. Third baseman Chad McClanahan added a double and a walk to his HR; catcher Mario Feliciano singled for his first base knock; we mentioned Gabriel Garcia's double to begin his career. Each played clean defense as well. Other "established" grizzled vets (some with two whole weeks of experience ;)) also had nice evenings as the box will show you.

Maryvale Game Log

Scoreless rehab work for LHP Mitch Lambson and RHP Preston Gainey; not counting three rehabbers, there are 18 pitchers fighting for innings currently in the Arizona heat. Fortunately, there are six catchers available for all those side sessions...

TWEET of the night -- She's a keeper! Nice camera work by Chad McClanahan's young lady in his life, captures his first at-bat, and thus the HR!

Nate Orf led the way with four RBI in Thursday's win. (Paat Kelly photo)

As always, a suggested recap read can provide so much more info than I could in a few blurbs below...

***

Colorado Springs Box Score

74 pitches, 39 strikes for RHP Wily Peralta in his very uneven brief outing; Nate Orf on base all five times up -- seriously, if Jake Elmore continues to show little in his big league role, Orf is ready, he needs to be added to the 40-man this fall regardless; more magic from the hit-happy catcher due of Josmil Pinto and Manny Pina; 39 combined baserunners, not including the reached by errors.
