Hample at Fort Bragg game

You know we all make mistakes, but this guy makes some kind of mistake just about everywhere he goes to watch baseball. His obsession with getting balls is ridiculous and many times it goes over the top. This is just the latest blunder for him.

The fact that he lied about how he got in is just despicable. I bet the Happy Youngster idolizes this clown.

I got a good laugh when I saw:

A friend of a friend.

Yah ok betting someone sold it to him for the $1,000 he was offering over Tinder.

If true that a soldier took Zack instead of his girlfriend, what's the big deal other than everyone hates this guy? What's the difference if a soldier takes Zack, or his girlfriend, or his mom, or some hobo off the street. If people are going to make a big deal about Zack not being military then the same deal should be made about anyone else.

I think more people have a problem with him trying to buy a ticket for $1,000 that isn't suppose to be resold and only attended for military personnel and their families.

Also the fact of how he brags about himself to try and convince people to sell a ticket to him or to bring him along.

MLB should not be in the business of restricting fans from attending games other than in criminal cases.

Seriously? Given the sacrifices that military personnel and their families make for this country, I have no problem with restricting civilian fans from this game.

I agree that what MLB tried to do (having the very first regular season game on an active military base where the spectators were supposed to be just military and their families) was well intended. However, that restriction only made a guy like Hample want to get in even more. All souvenir balls from that game went to families that will likely keep and cherish them, other than the 11 or so balls that Hample somehow got his hands on. He now has a monopoly on the collectibles market from this game. Balls that are likely worth much more than the alleged $100 per ball he's pledged for charity. If MLB has any game balls remaining, I hope they release them through their regular auctions to try to dilute their collectible worth.

In general, guys like Hample and Happy Youngster get under my skin. The fact he ended up with 11 balls is alarming, yet also impressive in the sense he was surrounded by military and probably used some unscrupulous tactics and emerged unscathed.

Sure, and one member of the military was compensated for his/her sacrifices by getting paid $1000 from this dude for a ticket. It's not like he impersonated a service member - blame the person who sold one of their exclusive tickets if anyone.

Maybe I just prefer my baseball with less rabid jingoism though. Generally make sure I'm off buying a hot dog during the post-9/11 mandatory God Bless America.

Hample is a self promoting turd who's "hobby" is hip checking little kids to chase batting practice balls and then bragging about it on Twitter.

First he went on Twitter asking for tickets to a game he wasn't supposed to be at, then changed his story and said it was from a "friend who didn't take his girlfriend". It would be semi believable if he didn't change his story after he got called on it.

It's one thing for adults to have kid hobbies. I get it. It's cool. But his ultra aggressive self promotion when he gets called out for the crappy stuff he (repeatedly) does.... Maybe he ought to consider where the criticism is coming from.

I love how he thinks that giving all the balls away except one is honorable.

Yeah, especially since a kid could've had the fun of catching it or watch his/her mom or dad catch it and give it to them. Not being given a ball by some 40 year old weirdo who shouldn't have been at the game.

He should be banned from MLB parks for at least a year. I'm a former Marine and this thing pisses me off. I've also got some ire for the person who sold the ticket.

This guy is a straight up loser.

Edit - and what makes me even more steamed is that this guy poaches baseballs from kids all the time.

During the 2013 Brewer season a guy two rows behind me caught a foul ball and gave it to my son (then 9). You'd have thought my son was handed a bar of gold. That ball sits in a case on our kitchen island to this day. And this clown Hample makes it his life's work to keep balls from kids. Shameful.

Nailed it. Souvenir balls should wind up in the hands of kids, who will have a lasting memory of that experience. I know it sounds like I'm clutching my pearls here, but every ball he collects robs a kid out of that enjoyment. He's the equivalent of a high schooler who still goes trick or treating on Hallowen. Or a 40 year old Boy Scout who enters himself into the Pinewood Derby to win a ribbon. Really, really pathetic in my eyes.

I agree it's a stupid hobby. These guys have rubbed me the wrong way for years, ever since the debacle with the Happy Youngster and Chris Coghlan's first MLB home run ball, which was well documented on this forum.

I don't even care about the hobby, especially in like batting practice or something. If that appeals to you fine but if you like go out of your way to steal a ball from a kid or knock a kid over or something, that crosses a line (I have no idea if he does this) but seriously, this game is for military personnel. You really can't let one game go? If you're that desperate for a ball, wait until after the game and check Ebay or post a message or something asking for a ball from someone who was at the game and got one. I'm sure they'd be more than willing to sell or maybe even just give the ball to you.

He's "sorry"

If you have to apologize for your hobby, you're doing it wrong.

Pretty much. The lengths these guys have to go to "spin" what they're doing is really beyond pathetic. If you constantly have to walk a morality tightrope in order to participate in a "hobby", maybe it's time to move on to something else.
