Diamondbacks are the most active team on the independent league scouting front (think the David Peralta success story).

Here's a story on their most recent signing, who will be making his affiliated debut at age 24.

Kind of bummed the Brewers have seemed to abandon indy ball scouting. In particular for 2016, there just seemed to be a situation in Brevard where you're asking really young guys to do a bit more than they might have ordinarily been expected to do. Even today, with the benefit of several weeks of the indy schedules in the books, locate somebody who is raking and maybe find a gem, or at least help fill some gaps in the system, particularly at high-A.

Final: DSL Braves 3, DSL Brewers 1

D-Crew falls to 9-14...

DSL Brewers Box Score

Recurring problem --

Team RISP: 1-for-9.

Team LOB: 10.

No Brewer is raking, but there's some respectable averages and OBP's as the team drew seven walks, but hit only five singles, here (overall stats).

DSL Brewers Game Log

18-year-old RHP Deymar Alvarado walked four and hit two batters in his three inning start, but allowed only one run. RHP Johan Dominguez' strong rookie season continues, but he was saddled with the loss here.

Final: Clearwater 6, Brevard County 3

Clearwater triumphs over Brevard County in series opener

By Donald Rieber, Jr., 27 Outs Baseball

***

The linked game story is now located at 27 Outs Baseball with a slightly new look as well, but luckily they will continue to be written nightly by Donald. The articles provide the most thorough source of information and insight on each game so please keep checking them out.

Brevard County Box Score

Brevard County just 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position and had 9 left on base. To be fair Clearwater wasn't much better going 3-for-14 with runners in scoring position and stranding 9 themselves.

Clint Coulter (2-for-4) has recorded hits in 7 of last 8 games and has raised his season batting average from .213 to .233 over that same span. He has also only struck out once in his past 6 games.

A forgettable outing for Bubba Derby. With the two long balls he gave up tonight he is now tied for the Florida State League lead in home runs allowed this season with 12 total. Derby only recorded 2 strikeouts in the game, but his season total of 67 K's does rank 8th in the Florida State League.

Brevard County Game Log

After retiring the first two batters of the game Bubba Derby allowed four straight batters to reach base culminating in four runs and an ominous start for the Manatees.

Clearwater Bottom of the 1st

  • Carlos Tocci grounds out, shortstop Blake Allemand to first baseman Dustin DeMuth.
Malquin Canelo grounds out, second baseman George Iskenderian to first baseman Dustin DeMuth.
Scott Kingery doubles (25) on a fly ball to center fielder Omar Garcia.
    Kyle Martin walks.
Mitch Walding singles on a ground ball to right fielder Clint Coulter. Scott Kingery scores. Kyle Martin to 3rd.
Jiandido Tromp homers (2) on a fly ball to left field. Kyle Martin scores. Mitch Walding scores.
Drew Stankiewicz grounds out, second baseman George Iskenderian to first baseman Dustin DeMuth.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Wang is stellar again as Shuckers rally for 3-1 victory in 13 innings 1

Jacob Nottingham drove in the winning runs with a single in the 13th

Biloxi Shuckers

Wei-Chung tossed a season-high eight innings on Friday night in Birmingham, allowing just one run (Jason Clark)

Biloxi Boxscore

Wei-Chung Wang was banged around on 6/9 for 10 hits and 8 runs but has been good to very good since that start. The pitching staff was just awesome in this one allowing just 3 hits in 12 innings.

Jacob Nottingham's (3-6) climb towards respectability continues as he pushed his AVE over .260, his defense needs some work but he's been good at the plate the last 2 months, OPSing over .770 in both May and June. Garrett Cooper pushed his AVE up over .320 earlier this week and Biloxi won without a meaningful offensive contribution from him which has been rare this season.

Gatewood & Ghelfi Lead the Way for Wisconsin

Rattlers win 4-2 at Burlington

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

Wisconsin Boxscore

Chris is going to cover the hitting as Jake Gatewood and Mitch Ghelfi combined to record 6 of the T-Rats 7 hits so I'll look at the pitching.

Devin Williams has occasionally blown up this season but he's in the middle of another good run, or at least it would appear so. In Drake Owenby's last 10 games he's pitched 41 innings and allowed 15 earned runs for a very respectable 3.29 ERA, but his season ERA stands at just 2.58... which tells you how good he was to start the season. He's not going to blow you away with his peripheral numbers or his stuff, though his strike out rate is very good, he's just been rock solid so far this season.

Final: Colorado Springs 13, New Orleans 7

Sky Sox Breeze Past Zephyrs For 13-7 Win

Burgos earns fifth win of the year as Sky Sox win fourth straight

By Aaron Cheris / Colorado Springs Sky Sox

Breeze Past Zephyrs -- I like clever headlines, plus it's a fine write-up...

Colorado Springs Box Score

The Sky Sox final three seasons with the Rockies were really rough, and last year's initial Brewer season wasn't much fun, so good for these fans, 40-38, just three games out of first and trending upwards on a holiday weekend must be fun.

Josmil Pinto, on base all five times up, played first base just to get his bat in the lineup. Rene Garcia caught while Manny Pina sat in what is now a three-catcher rotation. Pinto's OPS is .925, and how many teams wish they had placed a waiver claim on him this spring, inflated PCL numbers or not. Heck, he and Pina (.953 OPS), have been nothing short of spectacular, and to be honest, could end up being the big league tandem in 2017.

Colorado Springs Game Log

After a June OPS of 1.042, Will Middlebrooks opens July with a 4-for-4 effort that included a rare base on balls. Trade him, too, David.

The full article for this road game was writtern via a Missoula perspective, but we do suggest you read (because I'm not recapping 25 runs on my own ;)).

Helena Box Score

RHP Karsen Lindelllearns what life as a starting pitcher in Big Sky country can be like; not counting reaching by errors, there were 41 baserunners in the game (30 hits, 11 walks, and three HBP's, all Helena batters).

In the midst of a mass of crooked numbers, RF Demi Orimoloye's night (and early season thus far) stands out for the wrong reasons.
