Brevard County with 13 hits, 7 runs, and a walk-off home run to WIN! The losing streak is finally over and with it being a home game we can expect some upbeat quotes from Manager Joe Ayrault in tonight's linked game story.

The AZL Athletics are on their third pitcher through 1/3 of an inning against the Baby Brewers.

Update: The A's were only going to use three pitchers, even if it meant giving up 15 runs...

The Baby Brewers just scored 15 runs in the 1st inning. They batted around twice and walked nine times. Wowza. Four doubles, one home run, and a single. Only two errors, surprisingly. No word on whether the A's tried to invoke the mercy rule or not.

Further update: And now to pour salt on the wound, Corbin Burnes struck out all three batters he faced in the bottom half of the first.

Elvis Rubio's walk-off home run was the difference Wednesday, in the Manatees 7-6 victory. (Brevard County Manatees - Tim Holle)

Brevard County Box Score

Lots of positive production at the plate. Review the linked game story and box score for full details.

2013 7th round draft selection Omar Garcia (2-for-5, triple) was playing in his first game since being pulled from last Friday's game which was noted at the time as a "managerial decision". Garcia's triple was only his second extra base hit this season (the other a double) in 138 at-bats (31 hits). The speedy Garcia could use a further boost to his .246 slugging percentage.

Brevard County has the second lowest total team home runs (26) in the Florida State League, but tonight they had three players hit round trippers: Dustin DeMuth (2-for-5, HR, but also 3 strikeouts), Gregory McCall (2-for-4, HR), Elvis Rubio (3-for-5, HR).

Zero walks recorded in the game for either Brevard County or Daytona although Clint Coulter was hit by a pitch.

Pitchers Cody Ponce and Angel Ventura combined to go all nine innings on the mound. Each gave up two earned runs apiece in outings that were solid, but not spectacular. Each pitcher gave up a home run to Daytona CF Ty Washington. Despite the box score saying Ponce only threw 24 pitches, Donald covers in the game story that it was actually 46 pitches thrown for Ponce.

Brevard County Game Log

Down 6-5 in the bottom of the ninth with two outs and one on base and Elvis Rubio steps to the plate and delivers a walk-off home run. For Rubio it was his 5th home run of 2016, and 4th since joining Brevard County.

Brevard County Bottom of the 9th

Omar Garcia singles on a line drive to left fielder Aristides Aquino.

Blake Allemand out on a sacrifice bunt, pitcher Brennan Bernardino to second baseman Blake Trahan. Omar Garcia to 2nd.

Dustin DeMuth strikes out swinging.

Pitching Change: Ariel Hernandez replaces Brennan Bernardino.

Elvis Rubio homers (4) on a line drive to left field. Omar Garcia scores.

Is that a typo on the BC game? Ponce got through 4 IP with 4 hits on 24 pitches? And no double play or caught stealing to help with that? Interesting.

According to the game story he threw 46 pitches, 34 for strikes. Check out the link for quotes from Manager Joe Ayrault about the cautious approach being applied to Cody's pitch counts.

Final: Arizona Brewers 16, Arizona Athletics 0, five innings, completed early: lightning

Weather: 106 degrees, partly cloudy.

Wind: 2 mph, Out to RF.

Even though Athletic pitching got their act together in the subsequent four innings, A-Crew rolls thanks to the wild first inning documented above.

It'd be easy to picture one single lightning bolt on the far horizon, and the umps (and the A's manager) saying, "OK, we're good here...".

Can you imagine if the storm had come earlier and wiped out that big lead as if it never happened?

Maryvale Box Score

Eight of the nine Brewers hits were for extra bases.

Maryvale Game Log

RHP's Corbin Burnes and Aaron Myers combined on the shutout. The second-year pro Myers would have faced the minimum in his three innings save for an error, and should be one of the early candidates to find his way to Helena in the next few weeks.

Hopefully next year's high-A affiliate, whether in Kissimmee or elsewhere, has an audio presence. The Manatee front office had invested in the broadcast crew in recent seasons, and the young men did a great job, including multiple posted pre-game and post-game audio interviews, along with occasional video. Tonight's Brevard game would have been a prime example where we would have benefited as fans if that were still the case, although even the Daytona call would have been exciting to hear, even as a fan of the Brewers' organization.

Frosty Microbrews: Protecting Their Potential

By Kyle Lobner / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers' 2016 season is only a little more than halfway over, but for many players it's already been the longest year of their professional careers. As the Milwaukee Brewers' lowest full-season affiliate, the Timber Rattlers have many players who were in short-season leagues, college or even high school a year ago.

Rest of the story at the link...

Final, Game One: DSL Cardinals 7, DSL Brewers 6, eight innings (scheduled for seven)

Here's how it ended --

DSL Cardinals Bottom of the 8th

Oscar Cotes singles on a line drive to right fielder Bryan Connell.

Moises Castillo hits a sacrifice bunt. Throwing error by pitcher Alberto Paulino. Oscar Cotes to 2nd. Moises Castillo to 1st.

William Jimenez hits a sacrifice bunt. Oscar Cotes to 3rd. Moises Castillo to 2nd. William Jimenez to 1st.

Raffy Ozuna strikes out swinging.

Elehuris Montero singles on a line drive to center fielder Jesus Lujano. Oscar Cotes scores. Moises Castillo to 3rd. William Jimenez to 2nd.

Maryvale Game One Box Score

Defense on the pitching mound an issue as D-Crew pitching allowed four unearned runs, including the two in the 9th; catcher Luis Avalo was charged with two passed balls, there were also two wild pitches.

Maryvale Game One Game Log

Team RISP: 1-for-12.

Team LOB: 10.

You'd expect better when the Brewers score six, but sloppy play by the Cards' club aided the Cerveceritos' cause.

Barons rally late to beat Shuckers, 3-1

Brooks Hall tossed seven innings of one-run ball

Biloxi Shuckers

http://www.milb.com/assets/images/9/5/8/187038958/cuts/Hallthumb3_vt43ncda_qhs12x6o.jpg

Brooks Hall matched a team-high with seven innings of one-run ball on Wednesday night, taking a no decision. (Jason Clark)

Biloxi Boxscore

Brooks Hall with far and away his best appearance of the season but it didn't hold up, which is too bad.

The offense didn't do much with just 6 hits and 1 run but on the plus side Garrett Cooper was a factor once again.

It's been a pretty poor start to the second half.

Rattlers take early lead, but can't hold on

Clinton stays unbeaten in second half with 6-2 win at Wisconsin

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

http://www.milb.com/assets/images/3/6/4/187056364/cuts/PlayerOftheGame6_29_Isan_Diaz_Article_8zu8z12z_1m3tia74.jpg

Isan Diaz went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored for the Timber Rattlers on Wednesday night. (Wisconsin Timber Rattlers/Nick Guenther)

Wisconsin Boxscore

I've talked enough about Freddy Peralta and Miguel Diaz as pitchers already, I fell asleep when Diaz entered the game and it was 2-2 so I don't have personal observations to add other than it would appear Miquel wasn't throwing strikes today.

Wisconsin managed just 6 hits and Isan Diaz (3-4,2B) had half of them, contrary to the offensive explosion in AZ tonight my 2 teams didn't do anything. Isan is back up to .247 as his upswing continues.

Wisconsin Recap

Final, Game Two: DSL Cardinals 11, DSL Brewers 4

Brewers the "home" team in this road make-up game; they fall to 8-12 after the sweep as the St. Louis squad is now 16-5...

DSL Brewers Game Two Box Score

D-Crew was only down 6-4 heading to the final inning, but a five-run frame put things truly out of reach.

19-year-old rookie RHP Jenri Montas had a rough start (4 IP, 6 R, 5 ER).

After 20 games, the DSL Brewers have only had one appearance by a southpaw all season. Back on June 9th, 17-year-old Venezuelan rookie LHP Luis Cordero got the start, but was lifted in the middle of the second inning, and hasn't pitched since. Milwaukee did add a new free agent LHP to the DSL roster on Wednesday, we'll document that in the Transaction Thread this AM.

DSL Brewers Game Two Game Log

17-year-old rookie 2B Edwin Sano is off to a nice little start in his first 11 games (.771 OPS).
