Final: DSL Yankees #2 Squad 10, DSL Brewers 5

Not even that close, as the D-Crew scored three in the bottom of the 9th.

Att: 175.

Maybe the first time we've seen an attendance figure from the Brewers' complex.

DSL Brewers Box Score

LHP Johan Dominguez finally gave up a run (several, actually), roughed up in a relief role.

The two players we highlighted Friday as leaving with likely injuries, SS Luis Manon and 1B Josue Herrera, did not play. We won't mention that on a daily basis, but will keep an eye out for their respective returns.

DSL Brewers Game Log

Up to six passed balls on the season for rookie catcher Jose Sibrian, can't catch a break from the official scorers, no doubt...

DSL Brewers Bottom of the 4th

Jose Sibrian lines out to second baseman Sandy Mota.

Aaron Familia walks.

Bryan Connell pops out to first baseman Luis Sanchez.

Luis Avalo singles on a ground ball to shortstop Borinquen Mendez. Aaron Familia to 2nd.

With Jesus Lujano batting, wild pitch by Deivi Garcia, Aaron Familia to 3rd. Luis Avalo to 2nd.

Jesus Lujano walks.

Bryan Torres lines out to second baseman Sandy Mota.

DSL Yankees2 Top of the 5th

Defensive Substitution: Javier Castillo replaces catcher Jose Sibrian, batting 3rd.

Defensive switch from first base to catcher for Luis Avalo.

That's awfully early, and it wasn't a blowout yet -- hopefully Sibrian's OK, something to keep an eye on this week.

Clinton scores early and often to top Rattlers 10-2

Luis Aviles went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI for the Rattlers on Monday night. (Wisconsin Timber Rattlers/Nick Guenther)

Wisconsin Boxscore

Where to start? Well I was musing on how much Jordan Yamamoto had grown on me when 2 pitches later Mitch Ghelfi let an easy strike 3 get through him and then Jordan completely imploded. As a coach nothing drew and continues to draw my ire more than players who won't stop the bleeding and let 1 mistake become 2, then 3, and so on all in the same game. So I was extremely disappointed in the 3rd and 4th innings. I don't mean to suggest that events like this aren't part of the growing process for most young pitchers because they are, I've just never gotten past my disappointment in that scenario. As an athlete adversity made me focus more and the game slowed down even further, so I really struggle to relate with people who go the other way, especially when they are vastly more talented than I.

Speaking of Ghelfi, I'm not impressed with him as a C at all, he's a better 1B for whatever that's worth. Yes I know I'm hard on catchers, but the simple truth is that the Brewers have had very few good defensive catchers come through WI. To me that's like having a bunch of SS who aren't good fielders, what's the point?

Carlos Belonis (2-4,BB) is on the upswing at the plate again after rough stretch with hits in 3 straight games, though he did misplay another ball in the OF, somehow he lets fairly routine balls get through him on occasion. Luis Aviles' (2-5,2B) rise has allowed Blake Allemand to move back to BC regardless of Tucker Neuhaus' status, he too like most T-Rats in the middle of this game managed to make a mistake when he tried to stretch his 2B to a 3B with no out. I mentioned Troy Strokes' (2-4) upswing the other day and that continued with another multi hit effort.

The T-Rats continued to get runners on base through out the game but where as the Rattlers faltered defensively, Clinton was making fantastic plays on the IF to thwart any notion of a comeback.

Garrett Cooper recorded his team-leading 20th double on Monday night. (Michael Krebs)

Biloxi Boxscore

Well after bagging on the T-Rats tonight I hardly have the heart to do it again but Brandon Woodruff struggled mightily as noted earlier in this thread. In truth the first 3 Shucker pitchers didn't pitch well and this game was over after the 6th.

Biloxi managed just 6 hits and Tyrone Taylor (2-4) had the only multi hit game.

Final, Game One: Tampa 2, Brevard County 0

Final, Game Two: Tampa 2, Brevard County 0

Tampa starters steamroll Manatees in doubleheader sweep

Donald Rieber, Jr., Manatees Examiner

***

Brevard County Game One Box Score

All three Manatees hits were infield singles, and just one Brevard County baserunner reached second base.

Win-loss record is mostly meaningless in minor league baseball, but Eric Hanhold was tagged for his 14th loss as a member of the Brewers organization versus just two wins. Hanhold lasted all 6.0 innings giving up six hits, two earned runs, and one walk while striking out one.

Brevard County Game One Game Log

Malik Collymore began the 4th inning with a bunt single, but quickly fell victim to a pick-off to first base.

Brevard County Top of the 4th

  • Malik Collymore singles on a bunt ground ball to second baseman Thairo Estrada.
With Blake Allemand batting, Josh Rogers picks off Malik Collymore at 1st on throw to Bo Thompson.
Blake Allemand flies out to right fielder Austin Aune.
Dustin DeMuth singles on a ground ball to pitcher Josh Rogers.
Elvis Rubio grounds out, second baseman Thairo Estrada to first baseman Bo Thompson

Brevard County Game Two Box Score

The Manatees collected five hits in game two, including a pair for George Iskenderian (2-for-3). No extra base hits for the Manatees in either game.

Kodi Medeiros pitched 4.0 innings versus a tough Tampa lineup. Medeiros gave up five hits, one run, one walk and struck out three.

Clint Terry pitched two innings in relief. The 2013 draft pick from Lee University has averaged almost a strikeout per inning throughout his professional career, but this year he has totaled just 19 strikeouts in 38 innings (4.5 K/9).

Brevard County Game Two Game Log

In what has been an all to common occurrence the Manatees suffer a pair of shut outs bringing the season total to 13 games in which they have not scored a run.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Final: Helena 11, Missoula 5

The Helena Independent Record with a summary --

Back at home after a half-dozen road games, the Helena Brewers made quick work of Missoula’s pitching on Monday night at Kindrick Legion Field.

Plating three runs in the first and another four in the second, the Brewers (7-4) had plenty of breathing room with which to fend off a late Osprey rally en route to an 11-5 win.

That victory went to starter Gentry Fortuno (2-0), who pitched five innings of shutout ball, allowing just four hits while striking out three and not surrendering a walk.

With his control Monday, combined with the on-fire offense backing him up, Missoula never threatened. In fact, the Brewers tacked on a single run in the third and, in the fifth, added three more to take an 11-0 lead into the sixth inning.

The visitors managed to show some power late, saddling the bullpen with five runs over the last two innings. Missoula’s Ryan January and Eudy Ramos sent out back-to-back, two-out homers against Rodrigo Benoit to get the first three of those late runs. Then, in the ninth, Luis Silverio continued the long-ball trend, sending Shawn Clowers’ first pitch over the left-field wall. A fifth run scored on a passed ball, but that was all the Brewers allowed before they were able to end it.

Helena piled up 15 hits in the win, led by Lucas Erceg’s 3-for-5 effort and the 3-for-4 showing by Juan Ortiz. The pair combined for three runs scored and four RBIs. Picking up a pair of hits for the Brewers were Joantgel Segovia, Nathan Rodriguez, Gilbert Lara and Caleb Whalen. None of Helena’s hits on Monday went for extra bases.

The teams will lock up again at 7:05 PM Tuesday (8:05 Central).

Helena Box Score

Brewers knew what they had in 19-year-old 2015 18th round Florida high school pick Gentry Fortuno this spring, naming him as the Opening Day starter for the H-Crew. He's been stellar, has any high school pick taken in that 2015 round or later been as impressive across all of MLB?

Sure, an extra-base hit would have been nice, but what a pretty box score!

Helena Game Log

Enjoy!
