That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

I can't help but compare Villar to a young breaking out Gomez. Both 50 steal ability with enough pop to hit 15 or 20. Both play premium positions. Both are big threats on the base paths who also make some mistakes.

Gomez had elite defense and Villar definitely doesn't, but Villar gets on base better.

He would've been safe but he lifted up his leg before touching the plate.

Which we're seeing all the time on these plays at the plate. If you keep your front foot down and try to touch the plate you risk catching a cleat on the edge or it digging into the ground and destroying your ankle.

We might want to start promoting the head first slide into home, now that catchers can't block the plate. It will allow the base runner to tag the plate immediately as they break the base plane.

Im worried guys will start injuring their ankle/leg as they try to keep their front foot down. Plus it's not very efficient for a home plate slide.

The science is mixed on which slide is better.

"One study did find that headfirst sliders reached second base .02 seconds faster. Back-of-the-napkin calculations show that a runner traveling at 15 miles per hour would get an extra five inches from that .02 seconds — and in the legendary words of Branch Rickey, baseball is a game of inches."

Tell that to AJ Pollock.
