Lucroy Trades/Proposals (part 3)

I think media proposals like this usually focus on the needs of the contending team and just fill in what the rebuilding team is getting as an afterthought. Which makes the whole exercise pointless, like most sports media commentary.

HAHAHA :laughing :rolleyes :rolleyes :rolleyes

AS Catcher+ LH RP that is exceptional for a team's #7 and #10 ranked prospects? Wow what are the Red Sox thinking having given up One of the Best SP prospects for a guy who made the AS team this season after a 1/2 season of good starts and 0 history of being a SP for a full season?

That offer would quickly be countered by about 28 teams in MLB with a better Prospect alone offered than those 2 value combined. White Sox would just say here's Carson Fullmer. Done vastly better than this ******** idea.

Do the Tigers have the prospects to get it done? Verlander and Cabrera are nearing the end of the line, and we know how desperate that owner is to win a WS. It would have to be low level guys though, as Detroit has nothing in the upper levels. Would need Stewart, one of Manning/Burrows, and Tyler Alexander (or both Manning/Burrows) at the minimum, maybe Jimenez too. Prefer not to take a corner OF in Stewart but Manning & Burrows are a long ways off and far from a sure thing. Also take back McCann who is only 26, flip him to Atlanta for another prospect. Is that enough for Lucroy?

From an interview today with Chris Antonetti it sounds like the Indians aren't going to be trading for a catcher. Focused on BP help and maybe an OF.

I've been concerned for awhile that there wouldn't be as big of a market for Lucroy as we fans want there to be. I'd much rather be sitting here with a quality starting pitcher with 1 1/2 years left on a team friendly contract than a catcher.

That said, i do think Lucroy will end up being traded, but maybe not for the type of haul we are hoping for.

I believe all the teams have done their homework and all the trade pieces/packages are essentially in order. Now, it's who will bend first.

I also believe there are last minute trade packages that are considered "acceptable" per each GM and even the Brewers, assuming that their ideal trade scenario falls through. You pursue the ideal trade for your team first and then fall back on the "acceptable" trade package on July 31st. My guess would be these are the packages that include a plethora of high ceiling teenagers, but not the "guy".

As soon as the first "Big" trade kicks off, this is going to kick off a series of multiple trades that will happen very quickly. Reason being, that these potential trade packages mentioned earlier will become altered. And the GM may lose out on the player/players that they want. OR the team they want to trade to will no longer need what they were offering because they acquired their need from someone else. OR a team needs to keep up with the moves their division rival JUST made, so they need to make a sudden move as well. This is when teams will start to give in to demands dependent upon their desperation or just because their priority trades fell apart.

The problem lies in that it's a sellers market in winter and a buyers market in summer due to the simple law of supply and demand. But that same law of supply and demand is also a benefit to the Brewers. They have pieces that most "selling" teams cannot offer. An elite catcher who is not only cheap but has control into next year. Right and left handed relief who are in their prime, inexpensive, great numbers, closing experience for BOTH Jeffress and Smith, pitch exceptionally well in a hitters park and come with future control. In some ways, while Jeffress and Smith are not Chapman or Miller in terms of pure talent. They may actually offer the same, just because of the reasons I just listed. Other teams know this as well. It's just cat and mouse now until the "Big" trade kicks everything off.

I do believe Lucroy will be traded, and to the Red Sox. The Brewers relievers about a 75% chance, and everyone else about a 50/50 chance.

Typically trading picks up around 8-10 days before the deadline with the highest volume of trades occurring in the last couple of days before the deadline. I don't think it is as much that one trade triggers a series of reactionary moves from other GMs, but more that teams wait until the point where they have the best information possible on their options and their own situation (i.e. who are the sellers, who are the buyers, what are each teams needs, what impactful injuries have occurred and what is their timeline for return, etc.).

Also, for reference this year's trade deadline is 3:00pm CT on Monday, August 1st.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

I'm not buying the Indians are not looking to improve their catching either. It seems like positioning on their part. Imagine them making it to the World Series and their pitchers have to hit now...you have 2 black holes in the lineup. Have fun with that.

Personally, I'd rather have Clevinger and Hillman than Fulmer.

Carson Fulmer is walking WAY too many guys to end up as an effective starting pitcher in the Big Leagues.

He's probably ticketed for the bullpen, long term.

The rest of their farm system is terrible.

Count me as NOT interested in the White Sox as a trading partner.

Well, either these trades will happen or they won't, so they're all 50/50, aren't they?

That's not what I said......Lucroy is 100% gone and relievers at 75%. 50/50 means that EVERYONE is available.

Sources: CLE in talks for MIL's Jonathan Lucroy. Perhaps Brantley's situation has pushed them to add a hitter & consider upgrade at catcher.

If I were to be a betting man, I would guess it to be one of the following:

LUCROY ALONE

Lucroy for Bobby Bradley and Brady Aiken

Lucroy for Bradley Zimmer and Triston McKenzie

LUCROY PACKAGE

Lucroy and Smith/Jeffress for Zimmer, Bradley and Aiken

Lucroy and Smith/Jeffress for Bradley, Aiken and McKenzie/Sheffield
