With the big league afternoon game, the daytime minor league action, and the two All-Star breaks, there may never be a better opportunity for you to listen in on the Helena kids, as they are the only media (audio) option for this evening. Craig Durham is your new play-by-play voice there, as we helped feature in Tuesday's Link Report.

Neither of them are living up to expectations. My expectations for Meideros aren't all that high to begin with, but I'll give him the benefit of more time to figure out his control. I'd like to see Coulter in AA, just to see if he needs to escape Brevard and that league. Not that he has earned it, but it'll be hard to see if he improves at all at A+.

Like I said in another thread, Coulter has had an oblique problem. None of us know the extent of that and how it has held him back this year. As a comparison point, look at Phil Ervin, the number 10 prospect of the Reds according to MLB. He was:

.242/.338/.375 last year at Daytona while Coulter was:

.246/.329/.397

Ervin has been promoted to Pensicola, even last year while Coulter languishes.

Final: DSL Brewers 12, DSL Angels 5

Back to .500 at 7-7...

DSL Brewers Box Score

The good guys scored a dozen runs on just eight hits because they drew seven walks and were hit by pitches five times (thankfully, no one left the game injured).

18-year-old 2nd year Venezuelan infielder Javier Castillo was on base four times, including a double, and knocked in five.

DSL Brewers Game Log

19-year-old Dominican rookie RHP Jenri Montas has allowed only two hits and two earned runs in nine innings of work spanning three appearances (two starts). He's walked four and hit three in that span, but still, impressive.

Tim Dillard. 9 runs in 2 innings. I love the guy, but maybe it's time to move on...

I triple-bogeyed my first hole yesterday. Good thing I didn't give up on the round, because I shot 76.

Everyone is allowed some bad outings.

Final: Dunedin 5, Brevard County 1

Manatees swept by Dunedin to end first half

By Donald Rieber, Jr., Manatees Examiner

Brevard County Box Score

The Manatees combined for just 11 hits and 3 runs over the three day series with Dunedin. Of tonights 4 hits only Jose Cuas' home run was an extra base hit. It was Cuas' third home run of the season.

The Manatees were 0-for-1 with runners in scoring position.... Yes, just a lone at-bat with a runner in scoring position.

Kodi Medeiros went 4.0 IP allowing 6 hits, 5 runs, 4 walks, with 2 strikeouts. Medeiros threw just 42 of 82 pitches for strikes.

This was the stateside debut and first stateside knock for 19-year-old Venezuelan catcher Yoel Vasquez, a 3rd-year-pro who missed all of 2015 (hamate fracture in his left wrist).

Final: Helena 9, Billings 6

Brewers complete Mustang sweep

A five-run fifth inning boosted the Helena Brewers to 9-6 win over the Billings Mustangs on Wednesday night at Dehler Park in Billings.

Helena (5-1), which swept the two-game series, trailed the Mustangs (3-3) by four runs heading into the fifth frame before the surge of runs.

A wild pitch and a balk gave the Brewers a pair of runs and a sacrifice fly by Ronnie Gideon made it a 3-0 contest. A Franly Mallen RBI single and Caleb Whalen RBI double (Whalen's first professional hit) gave the team a lead it wouldn't relinquish.

Mallen went 3 for 4 with an RBI, Cooper Hummel was 2 for 3 with an RBI and three runs and Lucas Erceg went 2 for 3 for the Brewers, who've racked up a lofty 67 hits in six games.

Gideon, a 23rd-round pick out of Texas A&M (college bio), recorded a two-RBI double in his professional debut.

Gentry Fortuno, who came in for relief in the fourth, earned the win, giving up three runs (only one earned), five hits and tallying five strikeouts in six innings of work.

Juan Ortiz's five-game hit streak came to an end.

Jose Siri and Arajo Lopez paced Billings, each going 3 for 5.

The Brewers begin a four-game road series with the Great Falls Voyagers with a 7:00 PM (8:00 Central) game Thursday at Centene Stadium.

Helena Box Score

Bullpen-saving 75-pitch effort by RHP Gentry Fortuno, taking over after RHP Rodrigo Benoit's three-inning start.

A little sloppy -

E: Erceg (2, throw); Segovia (1, fielding); Fortuno (1, pickoff); Mallen (1, missed catch).

2nd round 3B Lucas Erceg now 8-for-20, now we'll wait for that first base on balls.

How many iPhone puns does Billings' Jose Siri hear?

Erceg off to a really nice start.

Not a whole lot of pitching in Colorado Springs was there? Ouch. Medeiros struggled again; I had such high hopes for him this year and for him to be struggling so bad in a pitchers haven is discouraging. Well the whole darn team has been discouraging.

Having both Colorado Springs and Brevard County as affiliates does create a unique challenge for our coaches and talent evaluators. Less than ideal. I am starting to feel bad for Coulter; he just needs a fresh start somewhere else.

Tough having to come back with another twinbill today, unfortunately Tim Dillard had to take an extra pounding, and even then could not record an out in the 3rd inning...
