Going to San Diego & Petco Park July 31-Aug 3 - Any tips?

Bombers

I will be going to 2 Brewers games (night games) so we have plenty of time to do stuff during the day. It is me an another guy I work with. We are looking at staying at 1 of these 3 hotels:

Hard Rock, Renaissance, or Marriot in the Gaslamp (has a bar at the top of the hotel). All are within a few blocks of Petco.

As for what we are looking to do, mostly some site seeing and then drinking some good beer at beach bars or beer gardens. I think we will probably walk through the USS Midway, and visit Coronado island. Any tips on good bars to visit that are either on the beach or a good beer garden (it's summer and I like being outside:) ) ... Or any tips at all would be appreciated. I am going to try out Karl Strauss Brewing Co as I heard that is good. I am also thinking of stopping at the Coronado Brewing Co. We also might stop at the seaport village.

Tips and input are welcome - thanks! Go Brewers!

i'll be there during that time as well. my wife and i are traveling with a 9 year old so i don't think i will be heading to any bars. I think the plan is to go hiking in Torey Pines nature reserve, a day in legoland about 30 minutes north. we haven't nailed down food ideas so i would be interested to see what other say.

Eat at Hodads. Burger joint in Ocean Beach. Learned about it via diners, drive-in's, and dives and went there a few weeks back. The absolute best hamburger I've ever tasted. Small place, and you may have to wait in line - but well worth it.

There is a grill-your-own steakhouse in the Gaslamp called the Gaslamp Strip Club, named after their house cut of meat the NY Strip. (The receipt says Gaslamp Steak House, so you don't get in trouble if you have to submit for business expenses or if the wife sees it.) It is one of my favorite restaurants on the planet. The steaks are good, and it's fun to grill your own, but the sides are perhaps THE best sides I've ever had. I've gone there and just ordered sides. The other thing that is great about it - no one under 18 is allowed in the restaurant. They have artistic nude paintings on the wall and the waitresses are in burlesque outfits and it is kind of a classy burlesque atmosphere. If it's a guy trip, I highly, highly recommend.

Rockin' Baja Lobster is a great casual, low cost bar/restaurant to grab some tacos (fish or otherwise) before the games. I had my first Miller Chill there about 10 years ago - San Diego was a test market and they had a promo going on there. But the fish tacos are excellent and there's a little patio to sit outside.

The Marriott has a nice rooftop, but it gets crowded for games because you can kind of see inside the stadium. There are other hotels with a rooftop bar/lounge (Courtyard, Hotel Indigo) and I think Hotel Palomar has a nice pool lounge that is a good scene at night and Hotel Solamar has a rooftop pool and I think rooftop bar (The Nolen)

There is also the Stone Brewing Tap Room, but I'm not a big fan of Stone's beers. They might have some exotic stuff at their taproom though. Also like Lime and Cat Eye Club Tiki Bar.

Hell, I'm thinking about booking a trip right now...

Do NOT take the train to Tahiti.

(If you get THIS reference, you are highly observant when you watch Brewer games.)
