I don't know if poor people in Cuba are less free than poor people in any other Latin American country.

Yawn, why is it anytime there is a criticism it is viewed as bigotry or racism these days? It's clearly obvious that Briggs was trying to make a point (perhaps misworded) that these kids who are coming from poverty stricken countrie(s) are getting paid and don't know how to handle themselves. There's plenty of Americans that don't know how to handle money either, all the way up the ladder from the common folk to the government.

Actually, no he didn't nail it. OP mentioned Cuba specifically and only listed Cuban players. So it was one country he referenced and as such it was clear he was referring to their political system and not the poverty of the players. If it had been simply an economic issue he would have referenced players from the Dominican as well. IMO, there are plenty of players who grow up in poverty that do well on the field once they get money...dozens of examples really.

Having said that only one person by my reckoning even breathed the word "racist" in this thread. That does not require 13 people to tell that person they are wrong. Thus, everyone should drop the "race" angle and get back to discussing the merits of one Rusney Castillo.
