Shuckers drop second straight to Suns on Thursday

Adrian Houser tosses his third-straight quality start in the loss

Biloxi Shuckers

Nathan Orf was 2-for-4 with a double on Thursday night and 4-for-7 so far in the series. (Michael Krebs)

Biloxi Boxscore

This about about what I would have expected from Adrian Houser most of the year, about a hit per inning, 2-3 walks, 2-3 runs, and 6 innings each time out. The bullpen struggled a bit in this one as all together Biloxi pitchers walked and struck out 5.

Shucker hitters put 9 hits on the board but between getting thrown out at home and striking out too much managed just 1 run.

Final: Daytona 11, Brevard County 6

Tortugas trounce Manatees first half finale

Brevard County Box Score

Cody Ponce's 44-pitch 3.0 inning outing is recapped in the game story.

Dustin DeMuth hit a triple and scored on the same play with the help of a throwing error. It was DeMuth's 19th extra base hit of the season which leads the Manatees, no other player has reached double-digits extra base hits yet.

The only multi-hit performance for Brevard County was Malik Collymore who finished 2-for-4 with a double.

Rattlers Cruise to 14-0 win at Beloit

Diaz & Drossner combine on the shutout, Harrison & McDowell pace the offense

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

Wisconsin Boxscore

Freddy Peralta was back in rare form today with 6IP, 1H, 1BB, and 6SO... lines like that make me happy. Jake Drossner was a bit up and down but earned his first professional save with his 3 scoreless innings, capped by an excellent Monte Harrison running catch to close it out.

Rattler batters pounded out 16 hits (!), unfortunately Trent Clark was the only starter to go without a hit. Chris was entertaining as usual and I'm sure his game story will cover all of the run scoring in detail. Max McDowell is a cagey base stealer, he's now 10 of 11 on the season.

Wisconsin Recap

I was bit a concerned after coming up with just 1 run here, seems foolish now.

Wisconsin Top of the 5th

  • Max McDowell singles on a ground ball to right fielder Brett Siddall.
Alan Sharkey flies out to center fielder Mike Martin.
With Carlos Belonis batting, Max McDowell steals (10) 2nd base, . Max McDowell advances to 3rd, on a throwing error by catcher Miguel Guzman.
    Carlos Belonis walks.
Trent Clark walks. Carlos Belonis to 2nd.
Monte Harrison singles on a ground ball to left fielder Justin Higley. Max McDowell scores. Carlos Belonis to 3rd. Trent Clark to 2nd.
Isan Diaz flies out to center fielder Mike Martin.
Jake Gatewood grounds out, third baseman Edwin Diaz to first baseman Michael Soto.

This is tremendous --

From Chris' Timber Rattlers game summary:

Game two of the four-game series is set for Friday night at Pohlman Field. Miguel Diaz (1-6, 3.66) is scheduled to start for the Timber Rattlers. Eugene Manarino (5-2, 1.87) is the announced starter for the Snappers. Game time is 7:00pm.

Now, the young Beloit starter's name is actually Evan Manarino.

Many of you may recognize Eugene's name as that of our longtime Brewerfan.net poster brewmann04, and you'll see Eugene's full name at his Twitter home page link as @steelman58.

Granted, there is an extra "n" in Eugene's last name vs. Beloit's Evan, and I have no idea if Mr. Mehring saw the opportunity to have some fun in his write-up, or if Eugene has so seeped into Chris' consciousness that it manifested itself in his typing.

As of the past month or so, the Brewer beat guys (Haudricourt, Rosiak, even a bit of McCalvy) have taken it amongst themselves to respond to nearly every Twitter comment Eugene sends them, and always including Eugene's name in the response.

In fact, it's caused the Twitterverse to wonder about the situation, such as here and here.

I'm fascinated with the whole topic, actually, and I'm entertained by it more than I should be.

You're one famous dude, Eugene, and as we know here, one hell of a Brewers fan.

Final: Colorado Springs 9, Iowa 8, ten innings

Whew, thank goodness, much needed!

Sky Sox Walk Off To Stun I-Cubs 9-8

Sky Sox score five runs to tie in ninth, and then walk off with a run in 10th

There's a reason the Colorado Springs Sky Sox are the comeback kings of the Pacific Coast League in 2016.

Down five runs going to the bottom of the ninth, the Sky Sox put together a furious five-run rally to tie the game, and then they walked off in the 10th inning to defeat the Iowa Cubs 9-8 in a thrilling contest on Thursday night at Security Service Field.

Colorado Springs Box Score

75 pitches, 42 strikes for Wily Peralta in his 3.2 innings; nice work by the back end of the bullpen here; not real excited about RHP Michael Blazek's big league return given his rehab outing results, but his early season work nets him the benefit of the doubt here. RHP Jaye Chapman would have personally benefited from just remaining in Biloxi with his monster performance to begin the season and hoping for a direct call-up from there, it's been a rough AAA go for him in 2016.

Jake Elmore on base four more times, at the minimum, he should be an in-demand minor league free agent this offseason, which should net him a contract in the $100,000 area -- there isn't one organization among the 30 that wouldn't take his versatility and AAA production to have available.

Garin Cecchini now at .290/.348/.404 after a three-hit game. Thirty-nine games at first base this season, 12 at third base. Still on the 40-man roster, if the Brewers decide to move Chris Carter this summer...

Colorado Springs Game Log

Rule 5 RHP Zack Jones' 2nd Sky Sox outing much better than his first...

Iowa Top of the 6th

Pitching Change: Zack Jones replaces Jaye Chapman, batting 9th.

John Andreoli grounds out, shortstop Yadiel Rivera to first baseman Garin Cecchini.

Logan Watkins walks.

Mark Zagunis grounds into a double play, shortstop Yadiel Rivera to second baseman Orlando Arcia to first baseman Garin Cecchini. Logan Watkins out at 2nd.

Looks like July 7th will mark the end of Jones' 30-day rehab stint, which will mark decision time for the Brewers.

Fortunately for Biloxi, Pensacola lost Game Two of their doubleheader, but the Southern League standings show the Shuckers have to be one game better than the Blue Wahoos this weekend if they are to take the first-half title.

Maybe it is common in the minors but kind of cheap that Biloxi could potentially miss the playoffs because the other team played one more game in the first half.
