Final: Colorado Springs 2, New Orleans 1

Ninth Inning Rally Gives Sky Sox 2-1 Win

Sky Sox pitchers allow just four hits to pick up win in New Orleans

By Aaron Cheris / Colorado Springs Sky Sox

Thank goodness, avoiding a 3rd consecutive shutout (barely)...

Colorado Springs Box Score

RHP Hiram Burgos would have been an ideal candidate to make a spot start for Wily Peralta until Matt Garza's ready, Burgos even has a minor league option remaining, but the pesky 40-man roster status is an impediment there - that could be worked around, right? Andy Wilkins, anyone?

LHP Sam Freeman your closer in this one? Yikes, and survived, again, barely...

Colorado Springs Game Log

As the game summary noted:

Ejections: Colorado Springs Sky Sox Pitching Coach Fred Dabney ejected by HP umpire Stu Scheurwater (8th); Colorado Springs Sky Sox shortstop Orlando Arcia ejected by HP umpire Stu Scheurwater (8th)

Lefthanded hitters vs. Hader:

3 for 41. all singles, 22 K's. That's a line of .073/.136/.073. Forget the level, that's astoundingly good.

How would having Hader in the Brewer pen at the very least not be a big plus unless of course they aren't trying to be as good a team as possible this year? Now there's precedent for top prospects starting major league careers out of the pen. Chris Sale did it for a couple months in 2010 and all of 2011 and was able to make a smooth transition to starter the following year. Hader's delivery has most been compared to Sale.

Will be very interesting to see what they do prior to the deadline, moving relievers and/or starters and if that's when Hader finally gets an opportunity.

Because it doesn't make sense to modify the development plan for Hader by bringing him up to help a bullpen that doesn't need help, in a losing season, and start his clock for no good reason.

sometimes I wonder if Randy Johnson would have been as amazing if people had decided he needed to wait in the minors until he learned control, or to avoid starting his arbitration clock.

Randy was 25 (almost 26) when he came up to stay. Pitch counts were new, and an acceptable pitch count was higher than it is now. Innings in a season weren't a concern.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

And I seem to remember Randy "had" to come up per his options. It wasn't until he was 29 that he stopped leading the league in walks per year and finally achieved his ace status.
