Wow. The Manatees must have eaten their Wheaties this morning. 6-spot in the 4th, all after the first two hitters were retired. The hitting seems to be picking up. Clint Coulter has hit the ball very hard the last couple of days, at least, without a whole lot to show for it. He does have a 2B today.

Having fun at the T-Rats' Star Wars night. Harrison just launched his second HR, bit of a moonshot that went about 330' to LF. His first HR was a lower trajectory rocket, a la Rickie Weeks -- you knew that was gone right off the bat as long as it stayed fair.

Clark's 1st inning double missed being a HR to left-center by 4-5 feet off the tall LF wall. Isan Diaz's HR was in almost the exact same spot as Clark's hit, but Diaz's literally bounced off the top of the wall & over.

As a team they've had good PAs so far. And aside from the HR, Garza has been steady & has induced a lot of ground balls.

Diaz looks the part & quite smooth at SS, but hasn't had to make anything other than routine plays so far.

Final: Brevard County 9, St. Lucie 4

Manatees six-run surge sinks St. Lucie

By Donald Rieber, Jr., Manatees Examiner

***

Brevard County Box Score

Bubba Derby recovered from a rough first inning to go 6.0 innings and earn the win.

Two hits including a double for Dustin DeMuth. DeMuth has hit safely in the last 7 games. He is batting .441 over that stretch (15-for-34).

Clint Coulter had a double and a home run.

The Manatees combined for 12 hits (including 4 for extra bases) and 6 walks. Lots of positive offensive performances to review in the game story and box score. Enjoy!

Brevard County Game Log

The Manatees first two batters were retired in the 4th inning and then they proceeded to tally 6 runs as 8 straight batters reached base (7 hits and 1 walk). Dustin Houle was the only Manatee without a hit in the game and he did have the dubious distinction of recording two outs in the same inning.

Brevard County Top of the 4th

Clint Coulter flies out to right fielder John Mora.

Dustin Houle called out on strikes.

Taylor Brennan singles on a ground ball to left fielder Patrick Biondi.

Malik Collymore singles on a ground ball to center fielder Champ Stuart. Taylor Brennan to 2nd.

Johnny Davis singles on a line drive to left fielder Patrick Biondi. Taylor Brennan to 3rd. Malik Collymore to 2nd.

Angel Ortega singles on a ground ball to left fielder Patrick Biondi. Taylor Brennan scores. Malik Collymore to 3rd. Johnny Davis to 2nd.

Dustin DeMuth doubles (12) on a line drive to left fielder Patrick Biondi. Malik Collymore scores. Johnny Davis scores. Angel Ortega to 3rd.

Elvis Rubio singles on a line drive to right fielder John Mora. Angel Ortega scores. Dustin DeMuth scores. Elvis Rubio to 2nd on the throw.

Fidel Pena walks.

Clint Coulter hits a ground-rule double (3) on a fly ball to left-center field. Elvis Rubio scores. Fidel Pena to 3rd.

Dustin Houle flies out to left fielder Patrick Biondi.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Harrison Homers Rattlers Past Kane County

Rattler outfielder hits two homers in 5-1 win

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

http://www.milb.com/assets/images/6/8/4/182219684/cuts/6_4_PlayerOfTheGame_MonteHarrison_0ngqbv5i_f5skb2e6.png

Monte Harrison homered twice for the Timber Rattlers in a 5-1 win over Kane County on Saturday Night. (Wisconsin Timber Rattlers/Ann Mollica)

Wisconsin Boxscore

Matt Garza opened up with all FBs, and that's all he threw until the HR in the 3rd. In the first he was up with with everything but still got 3 GBs, all to Isan Diaz. In the second he was down where he should be pitching and got a SO and 2 ground outs, in the 3rd he was up again and it cost him with the HR, he also gave up a single that was erased on another Matt McDowell CS, I thought he was safe live and also on the replay. Garza again walked a batter in the 4th that was erased by McDowell, this time the runner was out by a step and half at 2nd. The bullpen behind Garza was fantastic as Alex Farina and Conor Harber combined to allow 1 hit and 7 strike outs with no walks over 4.2 innings.

Kane County is attacking Isan Diaz (2-4,HR,2B) away and for the second day in a row he made them pay by homering opposite field. As TLB noted Monte Harrison (2-4,2HR) hit a rocket down the line that was barely fair and then a moon shot that didn't look special off the bat but was well over the wall in LF.

AUDIO via Friday's Sky Sox pregame show: Manager Rick Sweet

Similar to the audio we get with Wisconsin Manager Matt Erickson occasionally (see Friday's Link Report), Dan Karcher's weekly visit with Sweet is usually my favorite eight minutes of baseball audio of the week.

Sweet is always a fantastic listen, and Karcher does a great job of zipping through the roster for updates. You'll learn why RHP Tyler Cravy is on the DL (OK, I'll tell you, blisters), but do go ahead and listen for yourself for other updates.

DSL Brewers Game Log

RF Bryan Connell debuted last August, he's from Panama - there's a photo of him at age 14 here.

Three players had three hits apiece --

17-year-old leadoff Venezuelan SS Luis Avila singled three times in five at-bats in his pro debut. He's listed at 5'11", 150, se he's sure to build upon that frame.

Another 17-year-old Venezuelan making his professional debut was LH-bat CF Jesus Lujano. Batting 2nd, Lujano also singled thrice in five AB's. Lujano, 5'10", 160, was a $350,000 signing.

Those two youngsters are a young 17 as well, and will be playing the full season at that age.

2nd year OF Marcos Pinero, DH'ing here, also had three singles.

***

We always like to point out the pro debuts each year. Besides Avila and Lujano:

Catcher Jose Sibrian, batting 3rd, was 0-for-4. Yes, he'll also be 17 all season, and yes, he's a Venezuelan, the Brewers have done really well there in recent years.

17-year-old switch-hitting Dominican second baseman Luis Manon was 0-for-3 with a walk, but was caught stealing twice.

20-year-old Dominican RHP Johan Dominguez tossed two scoreless innings of relief, fanning three.

19-year-old Dominican RHP Freisis Adames struggled in the 8th as you saw above.

***

2nd year RHP Joaquin De La Cruz, a 20-year-old Dominican native, got the Opening Day nod, five shutout innings, 3 H, 0 BB, 3 K, nice.

***

How about those basestealing drills?

Not good, none successful!

BASERUNNING

CS: Manon 2 (2, 2nd base by Yan/Mendoza, W, 2nd base by Arvelaez/Mendoza, W); Pinero 2 (2, 2nd base by Yan/Mendoza, W, 2nd base by Diaz, A/Mendoza, W); Connell (1, 3rd base by Pineda, R/Mendoza, W).

PO: Manon (1st base by Yan).

Final, five innings, completed early, rain: New Orleans 3, Colorado Springs 0

Sky Sox Fall 3-0 In Rain-Shortened Affair

Sky Sox winning streak snapped in five inning loss in New Orleans

By Aaron Cheris / Colorado Springs Sky Sox

Too bad the weather was such a factor in slowing down the squad...

***

Colorado Springs Box Score

As you read in the linked summary --

"(Taylor) Jungmann was pulled from the game after that hit. He pitched three and two thirds innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on two hits while striking out three. He suffered his third loss of the season."

What that didn't say was that Jungmann walked five. Man, is he a mess...the Brewers do employ a sports psychologist, one wonders if Jungmann has any self-confidence at all right now.

Colorado Springs Game Log

CF Keon Broxton was 0-for-3 with a K in his Sky Sox return.

***

New Orleans Bottom of the 4th

Destin Hood walks.

Matt Juengel flies out to center fielder Keon Broxton.

Tomas Telis walks. Destin Hood to 2nd.

Isaac Galloway pops out to shortstop Orlando Arcia.

Elliot Soto walks. Destin Hood to 3rd. Tomas Telis to 2nd.

Adrian Nieto singles on a line drive to center fielder Keon Broxton. Destin Hood scores. Tomas Telis scores. Elliot Soto to 3rd.

Pitching Change: Jaye Chapman replaces Taylor Jungmann, batting 9th.

Colorado Springs Sky Sox Manager Rick Sweet ejected by 3B umpire Stu Scheurwater.

Paul Clemens grounds out, third baseman Yadiel Rivera to first baseman Garin Cecchini.

Was either the play at the plate or a chance to argue about Jungmann not getting calls on strikes...
