We should've just cut him. The cash we are probably getting isn't worth our accountant's time to properly track it. I guess he was passable last year in AA, but I've long given up hope.

read, its cash or player to be named later. Why would you cut someone if you can get something (anything) in return?

Any chance it could be International Cash?

Euros?

I'm speculating that the cash required to acquire Bradley isnt enough to cover the administrative costs of the transaction. Probably should be blue, but as far as players in affiliated ball goes I can't imagine less value than a 26 year old middle reliever with a 6+ ERA in AA who doesnt throw particularly hard. Much like the Cotts and Hunter Morris transactions, I suspect the PTBNL will never materialize.

Who Knows? Maybe some scout from the Braves saw a flaw they think they can correct and they actively pursued him...

Maybe the Braves coaches actually see some sort of flaw in his delivery and are going to attempt to change some things. Thought the Brewers would of tried to have him throw sidearm before giving him up. joking but they have done it before. It's going to be interesting to see what happens to him.

Prior to today's trade with Atlanta involving minor league LHP and former 1st round pick Jed Bradley, the previous deal with the Braves was this one:

Braves (11/11/14) -- Acquired OF Kyle Wren in exchange for RHP Zach Quintana

That was a really fun time for me because I had stumbled upon the obscure link and tip that a deal was going down and linked to the cool speculation thread that I tweeted to here. Nice thread to re-visit as we wondered if what was to become a 1-for-1 deal could have been something much more.

Quintana, recently turned 22, is scuffling in High-A ball this year. Wren is with the AA Biloxi squad.

The first post in our history thread has been updated to reflect the "last" with all 29 teams. Still not on speaking terms with the Marlins!

Bradley has always shown pretty prominent splits. Righties just pound him. But this year even lefties were hitting him. The Braves would do well do admit he's a LOGGY and let him focus on doing that one thing - getting out left handed hitters. This is, admittedly, a limited path for him - but nothing else seems to have worked.

I'm assuming alot of Braves brass saw him at Georgia Tech and someone asked to see if they could spend a few euros to acquire him to see if they can jumpstart his career.

If they saw him at Georgia Tech, I doubt they'd have much interest in him. He was nothing but mediocre there too. Simply a horrendous pick, just as I said it was the day it was made.

It's relieving to know Ray Montgomery is now in charge of next week's draft.

Yup, and he was a very good big league pitcher last year. Now he's pitching hurt. He'll be back. Jungmann was one of the better selections out of that draft round.

Jungmann really was never that impressive in the minors, came up pitched great for 10-11 games then has been awful since last late July..... I haven't heard he has been pitching injuried... They keep putting him out there. Track record says his success was more of a fluke than his struggles. I hated the Jungmann pick & still don't believe much in him

  • 1 month later...

I was just looking at the Biloxi stats and saw that Jed Bradley was listed as having a 3.93 ERA. I did not recall that being the case with Biloxi, so when I clicked on his MILB.com profile I just about puked. Since he was traded:

13 games, 8 starts, 51 IP, 51 H, 23 BB, 52 K, 0 HR, 1.45 WHIP, 2.03 GO/AO, 2.82 ERA

You have GOT to be kidding me. Yes, walks are high as is WHIP, but he (still) appears to be getting a lot of ground balls to get out of innings, and he is still in the same league, mostly same opponents, just a different team. (It's not great defense - he's allowed way more unearned runs on his new team than his old - 30% are unearned vs 5.5% with Biloxi.)

With all of the failed draft picks, and the number of pitchers finding success elsewhere, there is starting to be more and more evidence that it may not be talent identification but talent development, and I am really questioning if the Brewers have the right instructors in the organization.

I agree that the Brewers have been questionable developing pitching talent, but I do think Jed's peripherals will come back to bite him eventually.

The thing that really set me off was how Jungmann's pitching mechanics have changed for the worse. His college mechanics were pretty decent except for a short stride so he wasn't really utilizing his lower half, and he changed over that to that jumbled/complicated mess he is now. I've always coached simplicity because it's the easiest way to be proficient and I've never let an athlete go the other way and add all that unnecessary complication. It was like watching CC bat when he came back to the Brewers all twisted around like a rubber band and holding the bat super high... he wasn't a talented enough to get away with something that complicated and now he's our manager and going to be teaching these young prospects. I hope he learned his lesson...

I've said before that the best thing that Jungmann can do is to gather as much film as he can on Arrieta and copy it. What Arrieta did is exactly what you said - keep it simple. Arrieta has a bit of a cross-fire delivery but not nearly as exaggerated and complicated as Jungmann.

I'm not saying Bradley has elevated himself to top prospect status. What makes me mad is that he is doing this 1) mostly as a starter, not a reliever like he was here, and b) in the same league, facing 95% of the same opponents. It's not like he's in a new league where nobody has seen him before, and it's not like he's doing this facing batters only once per game.

i believe I saw a chat transcript recently (might have been Keith Law, I know..I know) where he said that he assumed that Stearns was going to make some significant changes to the player development personnel and that he was surprised it hadn't already happened. I have to say that I agree-at some point we have to try something different as the disappointment can't be ALL on the people making drafting decisions.
