Made up trade that should happen today Hill/Montero

The Mets handling of the Wheeler/Flores/Gomez fiasco may preclude this deal from going down but with Wright being sidelined indefinitely, Aaron Hill and the full amount remaining on his contract should go to the Mets for Rafael Montero.

Montero is a guy at 25 that has had setbacks and has met with only moderate success in the hitter friendly AAA PCL. However the fact that heis stymied but the Mets rotational depth and the fact that his stuff still flashes as a starter makes him very interesting....I think Hill has played well enough to suggest himself as a Murphy type that can get hot and make a difference, though with Arcia's ascension/Villar's move to 3rd his future value to us is muted.

I like what Hill has done, and this was my hope that he can coax up a little bit of trade value...but the question has to be asked...will the Mets be playing against the Reds for most or all of the playoffs?

Montero is a bit much for Hill probably. Montero's star has faded a little bit, but I don't think Hill can fetch potentially 5 years of a useful pitcher.

If you get anything of value for Hill it's a solid move.

Hill has played solid ball, and offers some versatility for a contending club. But that's just not us. Shed the salary, get a prospect - it's a positive.

Then you let Perez or someone play 3B full time and see how they do over the long haul.

Maybe we can lock up Hill as a long term solution at 3B?
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Why worry about salary at this point? The payroll is so much lower I'm not really sure it's that big of an issue vs. getting a better player. That said I'd rather see Orf get called up first. Arcia has been doing well in AAA, but not completely dominating and I would imagine once he is up he'll be up for good so I'd like to see him ready to do well right away. Orf is pretty interesting and could be a really great utility guy in my mind and maybe even at least an average regular, but he probably needs a good solid chunk of MLB ABs to let that happen, so why not now and then we can sort out our 2B, SS, 3B starters and bench guys a little more clearly for next year. It could even be a pretty big strength given the number of interesting players we have floating around those positions.

I think Briggs hacked your account.

Should've been in blue. Was trying to crack a joke.

Hill has been a pleasant surprise to me. I could see him being valuable to competing teams.

It may be like a Javier Betancourt type of trade, though. Betancourt is ok at best. Weak hitter and is basically a dime a dozen ball player. If he maxes out he could be a utility player, but frankly, I'd put him below Rivera as a future utility guy.

Hill and a flier for Nimmo

Nimmo is not a flier type player. He is a legit prospect...and a pretty good one at that.

Offer was actually made to me, on a different forum, by a Mets fan. Same Mets fan that is incredibly frugal when it comes to their prospects. He made an offer of Dom Smith, Matt Reynolds and Victor Cruzado for Ryan Braun and Aaron Hill just to give you an idea on how frugal he is.

Also, a caveat here, that's if they strike out on better options. Guys like Solarte and Valencia.

Not me. I never made that suggestion. I did say Hill was not over the hill and was useful this year. He's proven me right. Once teams like Mets and Royals see their internal options are lacking, Brewers could take calls from multiple teams increasing his trade value.

I agree that Hill's value can go up but if any team offers a top 15 prospect for him (alone), Stearns should jump on the offer, not try to wait and see if he can get more..

Think of this as a repeat of Parra from last season. A repeat of that deal would be a very good get...
