This forum really turns into "JS Online Comments" sometimes. Yes, there were arguably more "exciting" players than Corey Ray, but he was a consensus top-5/top-10 talent and some evaluators had him as the best player in the draft. Stop pretending like you know what you're talking about and that he's a bad player.

Montgomery & Stearns on Periscope seem incredible excited about the pick. I'm going to hold off judgement until everyone around Corey (along with Corey) get to The Show. Who knows, does Puk's arm fall off or Groome melt down in the minors? Nothing is a sure bet.

Glad I wasted last year hyped & studying for this pick.....He better underslot at no more than 2 million. The one guy out of like the top 15 I was dead set against! Throw him in BC right away & see how he does.... I don't think Belonis, Clark, Harrison, Denson should be forced out of Wisconsin due to poor drafting
What organization do you scout for? I mean you can have your opinions, but respected guys in the industry have said this is a great pick. I liked Rutherford more, but I'm not gonna act like I have a better eye for talent than DS and RM.

That is his ceiling sadly imo. He is a better version of Michael Reed..... Ughhhhh Reed was a 5th pick, not #5 overall!

This is just ridiculous. I mean, come on.

From MLB.com:

5. Milwaukee Brewers: OF Corey Ray, Louisville

Callis: There was some chatter before the weekend that Ray might fall to the bottom of the top 10, but this makes a lot more sense. I love the power/speed combination, and while we don't know if he can play center field, he has the speed to at least give it a shot. He still profiles well at the corner outfield spots.

I just hate the fact we drafted 5'11" College OF. The size and age, leaves about nothing to project beyond what there is today. Nothing. He won't go 15HRs to 25-30. Speed if that's your calling, doesn't last. So he gets to Milwaukee at 25? How fast will he be age 30? You'd think of him being a 24 rookie, 36 2nd year, 33, 3rd year, 26 4th year, 19 5th year, and 17 final year. That's Healthy. It's terrible if that is the best he brings. 5'11" over Kyle Lewis 6'4" almost a year younger with Power? Jeesh! 5" difference in height out roaming the OF. I'd add 45feet to Avg Fly Ball lengths if not 60' that 5" gives.

I'm not upset that they didn't take pitching - I understand that there were risks with Puk and Groome. But if they wanted to go OF, I agree that Rutherford would have been the better pick. Lowe would have been better too because at least he has a chance to stick at 3B, and if he doesn't, he's athletic enough and has a strong enough arm to play CF.

Ouch. Puk only averaged 4 2/3 innings this whole year. Made it to the 8th only twice.

Yup I will never blame the Brewers for passing on him. He has the pitches, but man is he a massive risk. Groome was also a massive risk.

I want an ace like the rest of you, but taking a huge risk like Puk/Groome could blow up in your face really fast. I understand some risk, but in my opinion those two might have been just too much of one.

Also Corey Ray won't sign for that much underslot because he was a Top 5 talent.

From what I've read Groome didn't really have an "ace" mindset. Puk was also way too inconsistent for this high in the draft. I'm happy we didn't take an arm this high. In my heart though I wish Pint fell...

He won't go 15HRs to 25-30.

Should be noted he hit 15 HRs in about half the at-bats an MLB starter gets in a year. Obviously using a metal bat makes a difference too. Even though he is a college bat there is still room to grow.

Corey Ray isn't a reach, but I thought they'd take Rutherford, and he is the player I wanted.

I don't know what happened with those pitchers, but it had become obvious that they were falling over the last week or so.

There are several players I wouldn't argue much about, and Ray is one of them. I wish he had more HR power, that's the one knock, and if he moves from CF, it's a legitimate concern. Ray is definitely a talent, but if he is a .280, 15 HR left fielder, the Brewers had better have unusual power someplace up the middle to compensate.

That is his ceiling sadly imo. He is a better version of Michael Reed..... Ughhhhh Reed was a 5th pick, not #5 overall! All Stearns BS talk about upside & ceiling....then he does this, come on! I have been the biggest Stearns & Montgomery homer around....I am thank you'd with a kick to the "boys"

Sorry rant over.... I'll move on from this disappointment. Just need to stop posting, rationalize & accept what just happened, and pretend like drafting a .270-.280 average 10-15 HR LF at #5 is fine

Seriously don't understand you knocking him like he didn't belong in the top 5. The kid has yet to play an inning of pro ball for **** sakes.

I wanted high upside pitching, but if the club didn't feel Groome or Puk was that guy - so be it. We can pick apart any player to death. If Ray was estimated to be the 20th pick or something, then I'd be pissed. But he was a consensus top 10 guy - and as noted - some people liked him best. I'm just excited we added a good looking player. Seems like a nice kid as well.

Any change Groome, Rutherford, or Lowe is there with the 2nd pick? Otherwise I'm done with this draft.

Well...bye...

Some of these guys act like they're the second coming of Theo Epstein... Trust the executives and let the kid play before making rash judgements.
