2016 Draft Pick Discussion, Rounds 1-5

That's still interesting. Let's just say several guys had a higher obp. For Louisville. And he's a tweeter between cf and corner of. Doesn't mean it's a bad pick, just a couple legitimate things to consider.

He isn't really a tweener. Most think he can hit 15-20 homers a year on average. And honestly when he is hitting .280/.360 with 40+ stolen bases he will be good to play anywhere.

He's not going to steal 40 bases in MLB, there's a difference between being an elite athlete and having elite reflexes and speed... in some players they go together but I've seen more than my fair share of "athletes" that could only move quickly in a straight line. As in receivers and running backs that were great in track (even all state worthy) but couldn't make a cut on a football field and were essentially useless except on slants and go routes.

He could very well steal 40 bases in a season. The only question is if he will get on base enough to do it, where he bats in the order, and the manager. He has all the potential to.

Not sure how you can conclude that for a guy who had 82 SB in 602 AB with an 89% success rate for his college career.

At #67 Royals took RHP A.J. Puckett... would have loved to get him and A.J. Puk to establish a new Spahn/Sain combo: "Puk and Puckett and then just [expletive deleted by moderator] it"

Nice! Turns out it was worth hanging around for 19 pages, after all.

Well...bye...

Some of these guys act like they're the second coming of Theo Epstein... Trust the executives and let the kid play before making rash judgements.

....isn't this an indictment of our entire American society?

Not sure I follow you here...

Stealing bases is also about instincts and being able to read the moves of pitchers. Guys tend to be safe or thrown out by a fraction of a second, so if a baserunner doesn't consistently get good jumps, he'll get thrown out even if he's really fast.

Have no clue on how Ray stacks up in this regard.

I don't have his birth date, but Perfect Game lists Mario's age as 17 years, 6 months.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

"The key to Feliciano is his bat. He has some strength in his swing with over-the-fence potential. He's not an all-or-nothing hitter, showing a solid approach at times. Especially for a catcher, Feliciano runs well and that athleticism does help him behind the plate. Some worry about his ability to catch long-term. He does have a solid arm, but the rest of his defensive game is still a work in progress. "

Only 17, doesn't turn 18 until November, probably younger than most of the people he's playing with. I think mlb.com may have him a little underrated.

While I was ridiculous, irrational, and not overly happy with the Ray, one thing I do love about him is he is outstanding on the bases & at stealing. Stealing is about timing, anticipation, explosiveness, and speed helps. Ray is an athlete but doesn't run a 6.3-6.4 but he has amazing instincts, jumps, and smarts when it comes to stealing. Villar is leading MLB in steals & it not because he is so fast but he has those skills. I think Ray could steal 40. Braun has stolen 30 & 33 before.... Do you feel he possesses that much better ability than Ray on the bases?
