Erceg. Didn't hit that well at Cal, but that's a really tough place to hit. He'll stay at 3rd.

OK, two things .... first, there's a legit power prospect .... I said PROSPECT, not sure thing. Secondly, the Brewers are clearly trying to compete sooner than later, it's college tonight, so we're not thinking five years from now with these picks.

I was legit going to mention Luke Erceg a few minutes ago... he had to transfer to Menlo from Cal due to a low GPA - take that for what you will. I like the pick.
He doesn't need to know trigonometry to know how to play ball. I could care less about that haha.

Makes you think that any package for Lucroy will have to include a stud SP prospect.

From what I read they were comparing Erceg to Utley but with the ability to stay at 3B. Any time you can get a LH stick at 3B or C you take it.

Don't really feel good about that statement. :ohwell

Yah don't care about the GPA thing. Being a college athlete can be tough. Even more so if you weren't really one to go to college in the first place which I am assuming is his case.

Now if he was out partying every night...that would be more of an issue.

This is also intriguing about Erceg....

Erceg also possesses a plus-fastball that was clocked at 96-97 mph and posted a 0.78 ERA and struck out 32 over 23 innings, allowing 16 hits and eight walks.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Or they could be taking the highest rated guys on their draft board, and the first 2 happen to be college players.

I guess I really don't think they draft anyone thinking that they'll compete at a certain time. Given the high rate of draftees that never even make it to the major league level it would seem to be a poor strategy.

Erceg hit well in the California summer wood bat league before his junior year. It's always a relief when your guy has shown he can hit with wood.

Erceg kind of reminds me of J.D. Davis which makes sense knowing where Stearns came from. Very similar profile as power hitting 3rd basemen who also pitched (think they both closed) at their respective universities. Being a LH bat at 3rd just makes it even more sweeter.

Like the pick of Corey Ray. Was hoping for Pint but he got picked right before the Brewers. I blame Craig Counsell for being a good manager and not having us lose more last year!

Seriously though, I like Ray. Lots of athleticism seems to be a consistent Stearns M.O.

Like how we have stocked up on LH bats lately.

That was my biggest criticism of the Jack Z/Doug M regime - no LH balance. Seid drafted LH bats but they didn't pan out (Kentrail Davis, Walla, Morris, Ramirez, Neuhaus).
