lol at all of these posters freaking out over us picking a consensus top 10 player at 5! I'm sorry but I will trust the experts and our scouting department over the opinions of most posters here.

I was going to post similar. I find it interesting that posters feel they know more than guys who jobs are on the line and whole life is spent watching these players. I didn't like the pick, but it's based on reading what other posters and experts have said. I have seen a 2 minute video and that's it if Ray. It's ok to have an opinion and be passionate about it but I don't understand the infighting

I wonder what kind of deal the Brewers get done with Corey Ray? I'd like the pick a lot more if we saved some cash for our upcoming picks.

From the sounds of it, Brewers have been on him for awhile, my guess is they already have a deal and amount in place for him. My hope is 3.2-3.6 million. Think that is a fair underslot for him. I don't see Brewers picking him if they knew they would have to pay slot. They do that research & the numbers attached.

$3.2mil is way too low. At worst I am thinking $3.5mil as I know the Tigers were heavily in on Ray if he fell. If he took less than that I'd be pretty shocked.

This isn't the first time the Brewers picked a shorter OF with with a top 10 pick because he was an electrifying base stealer...

In the 90s the Brewers selected Chad Green out of Kentucky in spite of questions about his bat. Green flamed out badly.

However, don't compare Green to Ray. Green had a much higher OPS.

Yep, that's it, fold the tent. With this pick the Brewers will never win another game ever again.

Every year there are critics certain that our draftees will never overcome that hitch in their swing, or their excessive weight, or whatever. Of course plenty of them are right just by accident, because a lot of draft choices do fail. But I've seen critics of Prince Fielder, Ryan Braun, Jimmy Nelson, who were equally certain that their preferred choice was vastly superior. (For full disclosure, I was one of them in the case of Prince...) The more adamant they are, the less I take them seriously.

I am NOT advocating that this is accurate, but I had to chuckle moments ago when my buddy just gave me a Ty Griffin comp for Corey Ray. Griffin for those who don't remember him was a Georgia Tech OF/IF that was the #9 overall selection by the Cubs in 1988.
Not just “at Night” anymore.
