What an excellent read --

RHP Eric Marzec (30th round, 2010, Youngstown State) appeared in 197 games for Brewers farm clubs over five-plus seasons until he asked for his release last summer.

Over the years, we had linked to multiple stories, reports, videos, etc., that let us know Marzec had a diverse set of interests. In the feature article linked below, we learn much more about Eric and his journey with the Brewers.

Continued life success to one of the farmhands I really enjoyed interacting with in recent years...

Looks like Marzec curtailed his Twitter activity last November...

I'm sure they were just trying to get Monte going by getting him a (presumed) get-me-over fastball to hit. I don't think it would work. To my layman's eye, he is jumping at every fastball he sees. Even if he times it right it's 50-50 whether it goes foul down the left field line. He needs to relax and wait a bit more, try to hit the fastball back up the middle or to right center. In any case, he is really messed up again.

Rattlers drop homestand finale to Kane County

Cougars beat Wisconsin 7-1

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

Blake Allemand went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored for the Timber Rattlers on Monday afternoon. (Wisconsin Timber Rattlers/Ann Mollica)

Wisconsin Boxscore

I find the start of Devin Williams' 2016 campaign frustrating (maybe disheartening is a better word), I was hoping he'd take a step forward and instead his control has been worse than last year in 2 of his 3 outings. Most everything is being left up, and it shows in the results. At least Jordan Yamamoto keeps getting better incrementally as he moves up.

The T-Rats were dominated by Cody Reed who was the Arizona 2nd round pick in 2014 out of an Alabama HS, he's been stellar at every step along the way. Rattler hitters Mitch Ghelfi (2-3), Blake Allemand (2-4,2B), and Sthervin Matos (2-4) had the multi hit games for Wisconsin. As noted earlier in the thread Monte Harrison has batted at the top of the line-up all season, manager Matt Erickson has been extremely patient and has gone of out of way to show confidence in Monte. In year's past he would have been batting out of the 9 spot by the 2nd week of April, Erickson has never been shy about shuffling the batting order in terms of who's hot or not.

Jake Gatewood committed his 15th error already, Allemand added his 7th, 6 of which have come in WI.

Final: Tennessee 3, Biloxi 2 (12 Innings)

Biloxi Boxscore

Lame Cubs.

Wei-Chung Wang gave up a boatload of hits in his 5.1 innings again, but interestingly enough gave up 1 of his 2 runs on a balk, and limited the damage fairly well. The bullpen pitched fairly well allowing just 1 run in over 6 innings, though walk, single, walk, single with 2 outs in the 12th was less than inspiring.

Kyle Wren (3-6,HR) led the way offensively while Tyrone Taylor (2-4,BB), Nick Shaw (2-5), and Brandon Macias (2-4,BB) all had multi hit games.

Biloxi Recap

Tennessee Bottom of the 12th

  • Biloxi Shuckers right fielder Garrett Cooper ejected by 1B umpire Matt Winter.
Defensive Substitution: Rene Garcia replaces right fielder Garrett Cooper, batting 3rd, playing right field.
Chesny Young flies out to right fielder Rene Garcia.
    Jacob Hannemann walks.
Jeimer Candelario singles on a ground ball to right fielder Rene Garcia. Jacob Hannemann to 3rd.
Brett Lee intentionally walks Victor Caratini. Jeimer Candelario to 2nd.
Billy McKinney singles on a fly ball to center fielder Tyrone Taylor. Jacob Hannemann scores. Jeimer Candelario to 3rd. Victor Caratini to 2nd.

Final: Jupiter 1, Brevard County 0

Hanhold goes seven strong innings in loss at Jupiter

By Donald Rieber, Jr., Manatees Examiner

***

Brevard County Box Score

Well a full baseball game played in one hour and 46 minutes is impressive, unfortunately this Brevard County offense continues to be overmatched. The Manatees have now gone scoreless in 49 of their last 51 offensive innings.

On a positive note it was a solid day for Eric Hanhold completing 7.0 innings pitched and allowing just 3 hits, 1 run, 2 walks, while striking out 4. Hanhold has a 2.39 ERA on the season which ranks 16th in the FSL among qualified pitchers.

Brevard County Game Log

As noted in the game story Johnny Davis extended his on base streak to 29 games with a bunt single in the 9th inning. As pointed out in yesterday's Link Report, the majority of his recent hits have come off infield hits and bunt singles.

Will Smith's upcoming rehab debut offers something on the horizon to look forward to in Brevard County.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

The 23-year-old LH-hitting third baseman is now posting a 2016 line at AA Birmingham of .338/.397/.676 (OPS 1.073). His release after whatever nonsense there was in his life is still something Melvin - Ash - Flanagan could answer to (somebody track down Reid Nichols again). Would the Stearns regime have been just a bit more patient with an extended "restricted list" placement? Listen to the setup of the call here, and sorry, I'm not intentionally trying to derail the Link Report focus for the 2nd time in a month, simply saw the video while searching for Brewers' clips --

Final: Sacramento 4, Colorado Springs 2

Sky Sox Start Road Trip With 4-2 Loss

Orlando Arcia's home run ties game, but Sacramento holds on to win

By Aaron Cheris / Colorado Springs Sky Sox

***

Colorado Springs Box Score

LHP Sam Freeman walked three in his short outing, that salvage project is off to a rough start; 23 strikeouts in the game, 13 by Sky Sox batters; this roster isn't exactly exciting, is it? Except for --

Sacramento Bee:

Giants reliever Sergio Romo gave up a solo homer but struck out the side Monday night at Raley Field in his one inning pitched for the River Cats as he begins his rehab assignment for his strained right elbow.

In a 4-2 River Cats victory, Romo struck out former River Cat Shane Peterson on nine pitches to start the sixth before giving up a first-pitch, 425-foot blast to Colorado Springs Sky Sox shortstop Orlando Arcia to tie the score 2-2. He set down the next two batters on strikes, finishing off Manny Pina on three pitches.

“I was in the strike zone, I didn’t miss by a whole lot and when I did miss, my breaking balls really seemed to be pretty sharp,” Romo said. “So in all reality I think today was huge. I felt fine and I was able to throw all my pitches well.”

The right-hander threw 17 pitches – 13 for strikes.

Listening to Timber Rattlers game...Harrison has the green light on 0-3 count kind of surprises me when he's batting .165

I'm surprised the ump lets him bat on an 0-3 count... But if they do, I'd give him the green light, too! :laughing
