With the 7th pick in the draft, the Miami Marlins take SS Delvin Perez from the International Baseball Academy in Puerto Rico.

I thought there would be more variety on this one, but Perez was pretty much the consensus.

The San Diego Padres are on the clock. I don't think this will be as simple as the earlier picks.

Please have your selection in by EOD on Monday, June 6.

The Padres select Blake Rutherford, OF, Chaminade College Prep (Simi Valley, Ca) @ 1.8

Blake is from Cali and so are the Padres. That's all I got for reasoning on this one.

The Padres have picks #8, #24, #25, #48, #71, #85. I have a feeling they are going to get a high upside under-slot player with their first selection and use the savings to make multiple over-slot signings (i.e. Matt Manning, Cal Quantrill) with their next picks. I could see Will Benson being their first pick in this scenario, but I will go with...

1.8: Padres - Alex Kirilloff, OF, Plum HS (PA)

I think Corey Ray keeps falling for at least one more pick, and despite Rutherford's California roots,

1.8 Braxton Garrett

With a number of teams having large bonus pools, it might make sense for one of them to not go underslot early and nab the good players while they're there. At-slot signings are the new market inefficiency?

This spot is where it gets much murkier, you've got issues like signability/saving money for a later pick coming into play.

If you believe, "they", the next two picks should be either combination of Ray and Rutherford, but there are a number of high school pitchers who could slide in here as well.

San Diego's farm system needs a lot of love, they blew it out trying to, "win now", and that went nowhere. With that in mind, even though they have a number of early picks this year, I think they'll stick to their board, rather than playing games with money in this spot.

I'll say San Diego takes Corey Ray.

With the 8th pick in the draft, San Diego takes California native Blake Rutherford, OF, from Chaminade College Prep in Simi Valley.

This was our first really contested pick. Here's the breakdown:

Rutherford - 4

Ray and Garrett - 3 each

Kirilloff and Collins - 1 each

The Detroit Tigers on the clock.

We had 12 voters in the last round, so please keep it up if you can as a few people are leaving us (likely due to the fact they haven't researched this many players).

The Tigers select Dakota Hudson, RHP, Mississippi State University (Starkville, MS) @ 1.9

8 of 12 pitchers the Tigers have selected in the 1st round since 2000 have come from the college ranks and they get the 2nd best in the draft here. Also, probably some ulterior motive of Corey Ray to the hometown Sox makes sense @ 1.10

He's not dropping any further. The Detroit Tigers select Corey Ray.

Considered by a few to be best player now in the draft. The Tigers are very grateful to get a college bat so full on tools. With hope of quick arrival they'll likely advance Ray and be the first in this draft class to reach the Majors. Detroit with their owner have been in win now mode for quite awhile and picking who can advance the quickest suits that.

This is the really interesting spot in the top ten.

Detroit has been heavily linked to pitching leading up to this draft, but this is exactly the scenario they will face - whether it's Perez, Ray or Rutherford, somebody who thought they'd be picked by now will be sitting there, and it may indeed be a young hitter.

I like Matt Manning here, but he's pushing for big money. I like Dakota Hudson, he's the, "safe pick" in this spot. Ian Anderson, Forrest Whitley, Braxton Garrett, Jordan Sheffield, Cal Quantrill ... any one of them could be the next Tiger.

I'm just throwing a dart on this one, but I'll say Detroit takes Matt Manning.

I think Matt Manning ends up going to San Diego at one of their two picks in the mid-20's for a significantly overslot deal.

I'll go with Braxton Garrett for the Tigers here.
