Welcome to the Brewerfan.net 2016 Top 10 Community Mock Draft.

Draft Order and Date of Selection

#1 - Wed. May 25 - Philadelphia Phillies - A.J. Puk, LHP, Florida

#2 - Thur. May 26 - Cincinnati Reds - Kyle Lewis, OF, Mercer

#3 - Fri. May 27 - Atlanta Braves - Jason Groome, LHP, Barnegat HS (NJ)

#4 - Tue. May 31 - Colorado Rockies - Mickey Moniak, OF, La Costa Canyon HS (CA)

#5 - Wed. June 1 - Milwaukee Brewers - Riley Pint, RHP, St. Thomas Aquinas HS (KS)

#6 - Thur. June 2 - Oakland Athletics - Nick Senzel, 3B, Tennessee

#7 - Fri. June 3 - Miami Marlins - Delvin Perez, International Baseball Academy (Puerto Rico)

#8 - Mon, Jun 6 - San Diego Padres - Blake Rutherford, OF, Chaminade College Prep (Simi Valley, Ca)

#9 - Tues. June 7 - Detroit Tigers - Corey Ray, OF, Louisville

#10 - Wed. June 8 - Chicago White Sox - Zack Collins, C, Miami

On the date of each pick, simply post the name of the person you think will get picked. Do not pick who you want to select, or who you think is the best selection for that team. The idea is to predict the actual pick that the club would make at that time. The player with the most votes will be selected for that slot. Once a player is off the board, he can not be selected again.

Official BF.net Draft Thread - viewtopic.php?f=69&t=32746 - I encourage people to read this thread (especially the more recent posts) as there is a lot of conversations about specific prospects.

Feel free to post links in this thread to new mock drafts, lists of prospects, etc.

Notes

To strive for the greatest participation, there will be no picks on the weekends or Memorial Day. I have gone ahead and made this a Top 10 instead of a Top 5. I hope that is okay with people. The draft begins on Wednesday, May 25. While I hope everyone will vote every day of this exercise, if you miss a day or two, no problem. Just try and get back and vote the next day. I really want to avoid this petering out at the end and only having 2-3 people voting. So please participate as much as you can.

I will update this thread every day once each pick is made, so the name of the person drafted is in the list above.

Thanks.

Forgive me everyone, but I've got a ton going on in my personal life, I'm sure to miss a bunch of days, and I love the draft, so I'm going to post this now.

My top ten ....

1. Phillies - AJ Puk, LHP, Florida

2. Reds - Kyle Lewis, OF, Mercer

3. Braves - Riley Pint, RHP, Overland Park, KS

4. Rockies - Mickey Moniak, OF, Carlsbad, CA

5. Brewers - Jason Groome, LHP, Barnegat, NJ

6. A's - Corey Ray, OF, Louisville

7. Marlins - Nick Senzel, 3B, Tennessee

8. Padres - Blake Rutherford, OF, Canoga Park, CA

9. Tigers - Delvin Perez, SS, Ceiba, PR

10. White Sox - Dakota Hudson, RHP, Mississippi State

EDIT: There are seven additional players I could see grabbing a spot in the first ten. I'd call Moniak to the Rockies my strongest opinion.

My focus has solely been in the top 5. After 5 I haven't paid any attention or know what those teams are looking at. That said, I'll let more informed people post 6-10. I'll just be picking randomly if I did.

Now 1-5

Phillies

1. Puk - really this pick is between Puk, Lewis, and long shot Mickey. It is said to be between 5 players with Groome & Pint completely off the list. After how well Nola has worked out, I think another college, fast moving, talented pitcher could make most sense. http://www.nj.com/sports/index.ssf/2016/05/2016_mlb_draft_jason_groome_phillies_braves.html

1a Puk 1b Lewis 1c Mickey

Reds- Lewis Everything I have read is Reds are going to college. Puk if on board would be tough to pass on but I have mostly read they want to go college bat. This leaves it to three guys: Lewis, Ray, or Senzel. Lewis to me has highest ceiling but most risk. You get what you get with Ray & Senzel. They will be MLB contributors. Lewis is ur Rickie Weeks, small school but all tools in world player.

3.Braves Groome - Two players here I believe. It would be Lewis or Groome. Lewis off board. Groome is their man. That front office won't pass on him I don't think.

4. Rockies Moniak- From what I have read, if Mickey goes #1, Rockies may go into a state of depression. It appears they really have heart set on him

5. Brewers- Pint. Honestly Groome making it to 5 would have me streaking down my block but I'm not getting hopes up. With this board, Pint or Perez (Rutherford is okay to) are my three guys left. Some sleepers like Wentz, Lowe, Garrett I wouldn't mind. Collins is your LaPorta pick; same bat, same chance of staying behind plate, but will mash & move quick. Has 1st base body at 6'3 220. Would start in Wisconsin, be in BC to start next season. Ray just doesn't interest me. He's a very good player and well rounded but we have enough OFs & he doesn't have any monster tools that standout more than the rest

FORMERLY BrewCrewWS2008 and YoungGeezy don't even remember other names used

Folks, I want to be clear, I wasn't asking for your top 10 picks. I want to do this like a real draft. We only pick for the Phillies at #1 to start. The player with the most votes is who is slotted in for Philly. We then move on to the #2 pick - and only that pick, slotting in the selection as we go.

It's not an attempt by each person to see who can make the most accurate top 10 prediction - but a collective decision by members of this board.

So on the 25th, come and make your pick for Philly. The next day will be the number two pick, and so on.

If people want to post their top 10 guys, that's fine. But it's not part of what this will ultimately be.

Please let me know if there are any questions.

Thanks.

Got it Reilly.

So on to the next question...Who do the Brewer....ahh!!

Saying whom will be #1 early should be allowed I'd assume.

The simple answer is AJ Puk. #1 off the board for the Phillies. Reading that the Phillies draft board doesn't even contain Pint or Groome, seems this is a certainty. Only some prearranged deal with Perez who signs well below #1 pick value would be my best 2nd guess. The Brewers tie supposedly to Perez comes to a 4.382million slot value. Phillies at 9.015 for 1st pick say, "4.55mil we'll draft you" and he's likely accepting unless he's being approached by the 3 picks ahead of Milwaukee. That 4.4million savings means Philly can go after another top 10 talent. or 2 other top 15 talent. say a Joey Wentz/Cal Quantrill duo of guys that may value themselves top 10 and say aren't signing to teams who cant offer 3+million as the Phillies would be able to.

But vote for me stands at AJ Puk. Safer pick than Pint or Groome, but still comes with the same or higher ceiling and quicker ascension to the ML team.

Yep, if people want to start voting for the #1 pick, go for it. Having that a day or two early is fine. Just make sure you update it if something happens that might change your opinion.

The votes are coming in for the #1 pick. Please make yours now.

Please be specific in voting - like our first few voters. Such as:

"AJ Puk at 1.1."

Or

"I select Lewis at #1"

We'll continue to take votes for the top pick through May 25 (Wednesday). I'll tally up the votes either really late on Wednesday, or early on Thursday. Then we'll start taking votes for #2 pick.

I will wait to vote until the very end each day. If there is a tie, I'll put in my vote at that point to break any tie.

Thank you everyone for participating.

First post so not sure what weight it'll carry, but the Philadelphia Phillies select with the first pick in the Rule 4 First year player selection draft AJ Puk, Left Handed Pitcher, from the Universirt of Florida - Gainesville.

1.1 (Philadelphia): Kyle Lewis, OF, Mercer

My rationale: Despite Puk being the apparent consensus, I feel like a pitcher who has been a little inconsistent (and some minor injuries?) might be an unnecessary risk at 1-1. Based on Jim Callis's reporting, the rumor is that Philadelphia will look at a position player if not Puk. I'm guessing the Phillies front office thinks they can be competitive sooner than most expect, so I give the nod to the best college position player available.
