2016 Composite Minor League Records (Low A - AAA)

Thanks to a little help from a person on another board, I was able to put the following chart together without spending too much time & effort.

I realize that winning is secondary to developing the talent with the minors league teams, but it is still fun to watch & compare the records.

Here is to hoping that the winning done early will continue to bred a strong culture of winning & result in more wins at the major league level.

My plan is to update this every couple of weeks with a new posting. Enjoy.

This isn't exactly related, but I stumbled upon this neat (and simple) site that shows the maps of each organizations affiliates. When you click on each team map it takes you from city-to-city in the chronological order a player would advance from Rookie ball to MLB.

Here is the site... Called Up

Interesting how spread out some teams are versus teams like Baltimore and Washington who stick to close geographical proximity among all of their affiliates. The Rockies map draws what looks pretty close to a star.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

I am not liking the trend the Brewers have taken over these 3 postings (18-21-24).

Here is to hoping they can turn it around and win a little more often

If the affiliate clubs could get themselves back to a combined .500 record, it would put them in the top half of baseball. Current #13 place (Houston) is the only .500 team at 119-119

Outside of High A for the Crew, the affiliates are all within a few games of .500 and are basically .500 as a group of 3. A .500 record would be good for 15th place across all of baseball.

Brevard county... Can you say: train wreck. More than 30 games under .500 just by themselves.

I'm sure this is an oversimplification on my part and probably betrays a lack of understanding, but it seems logical to me that if we have the best farm system in baseball (or at least, a top 5), we would have better minor league teams. Why is that not the case?

A couple of reasons.

Rankings are subjective and are based on ceiling, not production, we have a bunch of prospects who haven't been consistently productive so for example instead of WI being 20 games over .500, they sit just under .500. It doesn't mean the players on that team are overrated prospects, it just means that every prospect has a unique career path, and consistency in baseball is hard to come by.

BC is terrible bringing the whole system down and that's not so much a reflection of the talent, but rather how aggressive they've been promoted on the pitching side. On the hitting side, everyone has been terrible with the exception of Angel Ortega, Johnny Davis, and Dustin DeMuth who were promoted to Biloxi. Frankly I expected more from Coulter, Diaz, Houle, and Allemand. I have no idea how the organization justifies Malik Collymore playing in BC because they overcrowded the WI OF moving Denson there, he's struggled all year.. BC has the 2nd worst pitching (despite the Uber pitchers home park), and and the worst offense by .022 of OPS.

Talent doesn't directly correlate to winning, production does and as an organization the Brewers have just done okay in that regard. Most of our teams have been stronger in one regard than the other which doesn't lend itself to winning either.

As an FYI...

The Rattlers are 3rd in OPS in a 16 team league and 12th in runs allowed, so despite having talented pitchers they've pitched just okay on the whole and the defense has been suspect enough at times for the Rattlers to be 3 games under .500.

Biloxi is a game over .500 despite having the worst offense in the 10 team SL and the pitchers currently sit in 6th place for runs allowed.

Colorado Springs has the 5th best OPS but sits 14th in runs allowed, they sit a game under .500.

At this point the main question is can Brevard County (High A for the Crew) avoid a 100 loss season. They stand 38-91 after play on Friday night...

There is so much new talent in the system and a lot of talented guys will be repeating a level. So, with that said, here are a few 2017 predictions:

1) Our CMLR goes from 27th to top 5.

2) 3 out of our 6 affiliates will make the playoffs

3) Our A+ affiliate will lead the league in ERA

Crash,

I think your dreaming/ overly optimistic with those 2017 predictions.

Earlier in this thread, Bork listed the plus/ minus for the Crews minors over the last 17 years. Only 4 winning seasons. That needs to change.

How about a top half finish with a winning record that gets repeated/ improved upon in 2018??? Last time there was back to back winning seasons was 2000 & 2001.

I have a sneaky suspicion that DS will be making changes in the player development ranks (managers/ coaches/ coordinators) this off season after seeing how 2016 went.
