Link Report for Wednesday 5/11 - Sky Sox matinee; Timber Rattlers doubleheader on local TV

Have to wonder how close Middlebrooks is to the end of the line. Wouldn't mind seeing Cooper bumped up.

I'd love that. Middlebrooks just appears like the end of the line is in order. No point in holding back other guys. Cooper isn't a great prospect by any standards, but he's an older guy who should be pushed.

Final: Daytona 9, Brevard County 2

Manatees bullpen falters in loss to Tortugas

Donald Rieber, Jr., Manatees Examiner

***

Brevard County Box Score

In the words of Larry David, "pretty, pretty, pretty good" debut at high-A for Jon Perrin.

Scooter Gennett the only multi-hit contributer, none of the Manatees seven hits were of the extra base variety.

Brevard County Game Log

Three of the first four Manatees batters managed base hits, unfortunately outside of three more hits in the 5th inning the bats cooled off for the majority of the game.

Brevard County Top of the 1st

Johnny Davis grounds out, third baseman Taylor Sparks to first baseman Avain Rachal.

Scooter Gennett singles on a line drive to right fielder Jeff Gelalich.

Angel Ortega singles on a ground ball to left fielder Jimmy Pickens. Scooter Gennett to 2nd.

Dustin DeMuth singles on a line drive to center fielder Jonathan Reynoso. Scooter Gennett scores. Angel Ortega out at 3rd on the throw, center fielder Jonathan Reynoso to third baseman Taylor Sparks.

George Iskenderian pops out to first baseman Avain Rachal.

I won't post it in it's entirety, but as Don's article mentions that 8th inning wasn't pretty for the Brevard County bullpen and thus a competitive game was quickly out of hand.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

I just can't get excited about Gatewood. 1 walk and 37 strikeouts in 117 at bats is horrible. He's going to get eaten up by more advanced pitching as he moves up if he doesn't make an adjustment.

I don't think anyone here will disagree with you about his need to take more walks. But he came into the game incredibly raw and its going to take some time. If it helps, look back at the progression he has made. I'm guessing his career path is going to be like Jorge Lopez's path. A lot of mediocre results and a lot of people questioning if he will make it. And he puts it together late in his MiLB career.

He was certainly a boom or bust pick when drafted.

It is kind of hard to see on the video, but look at the bullpen on the far left after it goes out. They are going nuts for their boy! Its just something about Tim Dillard that makes me love baseball...and Tim Dillard. I hope we sign him year after year until he ready for the booth.
