Friday Night Tykes

I'm not proud of it but this show has me hooked. Both the Texas and Now the spinoff in Western PA. I'm just curious if I'm in the minority (that's my guess) and most people are appalled by it or don't even watch it.

It is reality TV you are not in a minority at all. Us humans have a weird fascination with watching other people's lives. If there isn't some type of reality TV you like then you would be in the minority. I think I only watches Friday Night Tykes and it was OK...I probably just watched a boring episode though.

Deciding to watch reality TV is a dangerous game...watch a few episodes in a row and you are likely to be hooked on it. Even if it isn't something you think you would watch.

Boy I'm not sure there is as much scripting going on with this show. I do think some parents and coaches maybe act up more than they usually would because they know they are on tv, but it doesn't have that scripted feel. Like, hey today we all decided to rub honey on our bodies and run through bear infested woods and see what kind of crazy things might happen. By the way, I hate that type of reality TV. They really just show practice and games and a little in between. When you have crazy TX/PA football parents, you get enough action to film.

MrTPlush - I agree on reality TV being a slippery slope. We use to watch a fair amount of "scripted" reality tv and then one day said, this is not doing us any good, so we dropped them all. The only other reality TV we watch is Deadliest Catch. Which again, I'd say is on the lower end of being scripted. There is enough crazy action out there that they don't need to make a bunch of fake storylines. I know they still do at times (putting random greenhorns out there to fail, things like that), but it seems like you're mainly watching real footage for the most part.

Not to change the topic but Deadliest Catch is the only "reality TV" I watch. The first few seasons were great as it was an actual documentary of people doing their job. The job created the drama and was the story. Then, I believe, Mark Burnett got involved and it became a reality show with all the interpersonal drama it has now. I'm probably one of the few people who noticed it but the cinematography changed too from wide shots and long cuts to closeups and quick shot changes. They also changed the original concept of censoring cursing with boat sound effects to the standing bleep. I still like the show but I spend a good chunk of the episodes rolling my eyes because the "drama" is so manufactured and pumped up it's ridiculous. They had a great show but for some reason they felt the need to dumb it down to standard reality TV level.

I never heard of it, but I do watch Gold Rush. Another show that started as reality TV, has evolved into staged reality TV. But it's too late, I'm hooked.

With that said, now that I know this Friday Night Tykes show exists, no way I would ever watch it. I lived it too long, and had enough of my own reality with youth sports ; )
