Of course this would be Brett Phillips in the starring role --

Remarkably, this wasn't the first time in Phillips' relatively brief pro career that an opossum was a key factor --

Lansing shuts out the Rattlers in eleven innings

Wisconsin falls 3-0 in extra innings to see winning streak snapped

David Burkhalter tossed seven scoreless innings and allowed two hits against Lansing on Saturday afternoon. (Wisconsin Timber Rattlers/Nick Guenther)

Wisconsin Boxscore

Well nothing went right in the 11th on the mound and/or defensively, but this game was lost with just 4 hits in 11 innings which honestly shouldn't happen given all of the returning experience on the position player side of this team. Still it was a good run and the Rattlers are 11-12 on the season. Chris pointed out a couple of days ago that the only time the Rattlers were within 1 game of .500 in 2015 was after they lost the first game of the season, I have no complaints thus far.

As noted in the game story Luis Aviles (2-4,2B) had the only multi hit game and XBH in the contest.

I-Cubs and Sky Sox Postponed

Iowa Cubs

Des Moines, IA - Saturday's contest between the Iowa Cubs and the Colorado Springs Sky Sox has been postponed due to weather.

The two teams will play a double-header tomorrow beginning at 11:08 AM with each game lasting seven innings. Because tomorrow's scheduled contest was the last of the series, a 4:25 PM curfew has been placed on the games to fit both team's travel schedules.

Nottingham's walk-off gives Shuckers 2-1 victory

Josh Hader allowed one run over six innings on Saturday night

Biloxi Shuckers

Biloxi Boxscore

Despite being in an awful slump all season Jacob Nottingham continues to bat towards the top of the order and tonight it paid off. Looking somewhat objectively at his career, 2015 is the aberration at this point, kind of like Jorge Lopez on the pitching side. I'm usually pretty slow to jump on break out candidates, though occasionally I do like with Tyrone Taylor when he was in WI. More often than not I end up fooled in the end, which is why I typically wait for a repeat performance before getting overly excited. I'd settle for the .760 OPS he put up in 43 games in Stockton last year as proof of meaningful progression as a hitter.

Josh Hader showed some improvement getting through 6 complete for the first time this year on 89 pitches of which 54 were strikes (60.674%), not that 61% is an elite strike percentage, but it's progress.

Nick Ramirez (2-3,BB) pushed his AVE to .289, amazing what 5 hits in 2 days will do at this point in the season and Kyle Wren's 3 hit day pushed his AVE up to .213.

I wouldn't have setup the lineup the way Mike Guerrero has been doing it, but I would have been very wrong today as it worked out wonderfully.

SS Angel Ortega is 5th in the Florida State League in batting - his .742 OPS dwarfs anything he's done offensively prior to this April -- good for you, sir, you're on your way to an FSL All-Star nod...

With the eight walks (and 15 K's), Manatee batters saw a whopping 155 pitches over the ten innings here...
