Don't have to worry about Dee Gordon as he's been suspended for 80 games.

I read that. Dee's statement is just like all the rest of them. It got me to wondering just how many supplements contain substances banned by MLB and fail to adequately list it. There are 74 banned substances under http://mlb.mlb.com/pa/pdf/jda.pdf. I cross-checked it with my daily multivitamins and couldn't find anything, but there are plenty of things on there which I couldn't say for sure that they do not contain something banned by MLB. I can certainly see how unintended use is plausible, especially so for any players who are not fluent readers.

Dee Gordon took exogenous testosterone and clostebol...he knew exactly what he was taking and knew it was banned. Clostebol is specifically used by athletes to increase physical performance. Sounds like he was probably on some pretty good stuff. Search Clostebol on google and lots of bodybuilding forums pop up and its along with testosterone can be decently potent.

Probably, but having extra testosterone in your system could be for any number of reasons.

The sample collector?

No but in all seriousness as I just added Clostebol seems to typically be taken with a testosterone booster for best results.

I get that, Plush. My point is though, when a guy goes into a GNC or wherever, how does he know he's not purchasing something that could get him into trouble.

I feel like most would go through the team or maybe a personal trainer if the know them very well. I don't think players do it themselves...unless of course they are getting a banned substance. If they do it themselves they are just complete idiots...so many educated avenues to go through. No reason for them to buy that stuff themselves.

Honestly I don't think there are ever "accidents". I think all players know.

This is all that needs to be said to any player that is every caught using something on the banned list. Even in college, you have people you can bring your substance to and they will tell you whether or not that substance is on the banned list. It is a really simple concept that these MLB players feel we are too stupid to realize or something.

Now, if you take those steps and something were to occur, then you did what you were supposed to do in the first place.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

That could very well be. Even then, it's certainly plausible that a sleazy trainer could juice an athlete without them knowing, or con them into thinking he's got the tests beaten. I honestly don't have any clue what it's like to be an MLB player, so it's all speculation on my end.

A sleazy trainer that works for your ball club? If you have any other trainer than that looking at the supplements you are taking, you deserve the 80 game ban because you are an idiot.

I do believe that the vast majority of these guys 100% deserve their suspensions. Just more or less wondering here, how many have truly been surprised when they popped positive.

I think you are missing the point. Whether it be the offseason or not, these guys all have the resources to reach one of their MLB paid trainers that know exactly what can and cannot be used. It doesn't matter if they are being supervised by this trainer specifically. If the player doesn't do this, they are not too bright and deserve what they get.

I think they are all surprised because they all are on a schedule that beats the system...or so they thought could beat the system. I am sure a good majority of players testing positive passed many tests prior to the positive one while doing PEDs. The amount of players between MiLB and MLB that are sliding under the system thinking they are invincible is probably startling. One of the Top 10 players in all of baseball is probably taking an illegal substance.

Unfortunately the MLBPA will never do what is right and that is even worse penalties and the ability to void contracts. Though the later is a slippery slope and not as simple as it might be in theory.

Maybe so. I can however see how this all can be a challenge for someone not fluent in English, regardless of their intelligence level. Like I've said, I just wonder if, and how many, guys have gotten hit out of what they thought was the clear blue sky. None of us know. It could be zero for all I know.

I don't think Alex Sanchez knew. His driveway didn't reach the street. Heck, he threw a glove at a ball once.

They specifically give the players a list of banned substances. It's up to them to check it. And if in doubt, check with MLB before taking. It really is simple.

I would like to see some games being forfeited if a player is taking substances. Last night Dee Gordon had a key hit and the Marlins ended up winning the game. The guy shouldn't of been playing if this test was taken in spring training. It doesn't take a month to verify results.

Verlander's stance as well. Makes some sense. I think the reasoning is, can't suspend until the ruling is firm. Innocent until proven guilty, etc. I agree the the process should have more expediency but it is what it is.

Free Colin Walsh.

Couldn't agree more. This is getting to be a joke. Like someone else mentioned that he is on this team and can't go down so maybe he is the last one to get an opportunity. Either way, when they finally go to him, he'll be rusted to that bench. Dumb.
