I'm not worried yet, even Diaz has greatly fallen off. Reminds me of Brandon Diaz last year & a few others. I'll give them to end of May/early June before I really start to worry. You are right, it is pretty disappointing though. Expected a lot more from them

Isan Diaz strikes out swinging.

Monte Harrison strikes out swinging.

Peoria Bottom of the 3rd

Peoria Bottom of the 4th

Defensive Substitution: Elvis Rubio replaces shortstop Isan Diaz, batting 1st, playing left field.

Defensive switch from left field to first base for Sthervin Matos.

Defensive switch from first base to shortstop for Luis Aviles.

Edmundo Sosa homers (1) on a fly ball to left center field.

R. J. Dennard strikes out swinging.

Orlando Olivera doubles (1) on a line drive to left fielder Elvis Rubio.

Jose Godoy walks.

Thomas Spitz lines out softly to first baseman Sthervin Matos in foul territory.

Vaughn Bryan strikes out swinging.

***

That was the 2nd strikeout swinging of the game for Isan Diaz.

We saw multiple instances last season at the lower levels of the system where it appeared players were pulled for either lack of hustle, or perhaps "over-frustration" after poor at-bats.

Notice in this case, Diaz did play another half-inning of defense after that second strikeout, but wasn't involved in any plays.

In other words, we don't know why Diaz was pulled; indications are it's not injury-related (was it discipline, illness, or other).

***

Also, you may have seen my Twitter timeline from earlier in the game, as this happened:

Peoria Bottom of the 2nd

Jose Godoy flies out to left fielder Sthervin Matos.

Thomas Spitz lines out, pitcher Freddy Peralta to first baseman Luis Aviles.

Vaughn Bryan strikes out swinging.

How did that happen? A liner right at Peralta's head, glanced off his glove and the bill of his cap, and then popped a substantial distance over to first base. Chris Mehring's initial call (he couldn't be faulted considering the distance the ball traveled) was that the side of Peralta's head took the shot, but Peralta remained in the game as luck was on Freddy's side.

***

Thanks to a big two-out, two-run single from Monte Harrison in the 5th, the Rattlers are up 2-1 in the 8th inning at Peoria, behind Peralta and Marcos Diplan. If you're reading this live (approx. 2:45 Central), listen here.

Rattlers edge Peoria 2-1

Close win ends losing streak

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

Wisconsin Boxscore

I tried to pickup this game via both TuneIn and iHeartRadio after the WIAC game I was watching concluded and I just had no luck, I couldn't get anything but the commercials, thankfully MH has already provided excellent commentary. I'll just add that this is the Marcus Diplan performance we've been waiting on.

Betancourt's ninth inning triple leads to Shuckers comeback win

Jaye Chapman remains perfect on the season, logging his seventh save

Biloxi Shuckers

*note that I wrote my summary before the game story popped, sorry for duplication.

Jaye Chapman remained perfect on the season, logging his seventh save. (Jason Clark)

Biloxi Boxscore

Biloxi certainly made the most of the 3 hits they had... a walk, pinch runner, a triple, and an error=the win!

Jorge Ortega gave up 7 of the 9 Mississippi hits, no walks, the 1 run, and 2 strike outs. Jed Bradley now has 4 scoreless appearances in a row, while Jaye Chapman remains perfect on the season.

Javier Betancourt (2-4.3B) was the hero in the a fore mentioned scoring play, Chris McFarland added the other hit. The Biloxi hitters did manage 6 walks in the contest against 7 strike outs.

Defensively Brett Phillips gunned a runner at 3rd in the 4th.

Biloxi Recap

Lots of situational substitutions late in the game.

Final: Omaha 11, Colorado Springs 9

Sky Sox Fall 11-9 To Omaha in Slugfest

Sky Sox take early lead, but Storm Chasers rally and hold on to defeat Sox

By Aaron Cheris / Colorado Springs Sky Sox

Be sure to read the summary above to learn how the Sky Sox blew a 6-0 3rd inning lead...

First of all, a record April crowd in Omaha for this very cool give-away, the Mike Moustakas Bobble-Antler --

Colorado Springs Box Score

So why did RHP Austin Ross make the start and RHP Hiram Burgos jump in late (and struggle badly)?

The scheduled starter for Colorado Springs arrived late following a flight delay and entered with his team ahead after Austin Ross pitched the first two innings.

Did Burgos miss the team flight to Omaha and had to follow-up? Ugly box score line for Hiram...

Some Sky Sox bats remain on fire, even in a more neutral setting like Omaha. Hernan Perez would likely be a very capable infield backup on any number of big league clubs right now, and Manny Pina wants to lay claim to a Milwaukee spot upon the inevitable Jonathan Lucroy deal.

Colorado Springs Game Log

I'm not caught up on my Twitter timeline as of this early morning hour, but like Isan Diaz early in the day, an as-of-now unexplained early departure for Orlando Arcia, notice, he too, played in the field but was not involved in any direct defensive plays after his final at-bat --

Col. Springs Top of the 4th

Eric Young Jr. grounds out, third baseman Cheslor Cuthbert to first baseman Jose Martinez.

Keon Broxton grounds out, third baseman Cheslor Cuthbert to first baseman Jose Martinez.

Orlando Arcia singles on a line drive to left fielder Travis Snider.

With Michael Reed batting, Orlando Arcia picked off and caught stealing 2nd base, pitcher John Lannan to first baseman Jose Martinez to second baseman Whit Merrifield.

Omaha Bottom of the 4th

Tony Cruz strikes out swinging, catcher Manny Pina to first baseman Andy Wilkins.

Dusty Coleman called out on strikes.

Reymond Fuentes singles on a ground ball to center fielder Michael Reed.

Whit Merrifield doubles (3) on a fly ball to left fielder Keon Broxton. Reymond Fuentes scores.

Cheslor Cuthbert flies out to right fielder Ben Guez.

Col. Springs Top of the 5th

Michael Reed singles on a fly ball to right fielder Reymond Fuentes.

Hernan Perez flies out to center fielder Brett Eibner.

Jake Elmore singles on a line drive to left fielder Travis Snider. Michael Reed to 2nd.

Manny Pina flies out to left fielder Travis Snider.

Andy Wilkins grounds out, second baseman Whit Merrifield to first baseman Jose Martinez.

Omaha Bottom of the 5th

Defensive switch from third base to shortstop for Hernan Perez.

Defensive Substitution: Garin Cecchini replaces shortstop Orlando Arcia, batting 2nd, playing third base.

***

LF Keon Broxton (yes, Michael Reed played CF in this one) -- Broxton was 0-for-4 with a walk, and is now just 4-for-22 with the Sky Sox, but has walked four times. Reed was 1-for-4 with a walk.

Final: Clearwater 6, Brevard County 1

Clearwater rolls to 6-1 win over Manatees

Donald Rieber, Jr., Manatees Examiner

Most strongly recommended Manatee read of the season -- Donald pieced together a write-up and included his observations, all from the Clearwater audio feed, but the analysis on the Manatee season thus far is spot on...

Brewers looking for suitable Class AAA affiliate that will stand test of time

Tom Haudricourt, Journal-Sentinel

Use one of your monthly J-S free clicks on this, quotes from Gord Ash, the Brewers' point person on this...

More stadium news follow-up via Tom Haudricourt --

Manatees moving: The Brewers' high Class A Brevard County affiliate is expected to move to a new venue in the Florida State League in 2017, most likely Osceola County Stadium. With the Washington Nationals moving to a new spring training site in West Palm Beach, Space Coast Stadium in Viera is expected to be designated for use other than affiliated baseball.

"They are going to need to relocate," said Gord Ash, the Brewers vice president for special projects. "We keep hearing Osceola."

The Brewers' player development contract with Brevard County expires after this season but they wish to keep their high Class A affiliate in the FSL. Therefore, they would seek to follow the Manatees to Osceola.
