Nice job picking up Thornburg both offensively and by Jeffress. That would have been a demoralizing loss, and yes even rebuilding teams need to avoid those. Tough luck for Peralta, but nice to see him keep the ball out of the hitter's happy zone for the most part and get 9 ground ball outs.

2016 Wily Peralta: "Crappy, but not quuuuuuite crappy enough for a demotion."

Nice fight in them today, that's the 2nd or 3rd win like that this year. As fans, we always think it's a loss once the opposing team ties or takes the lead. CC pushed the right button with Rivera there. Mr. 9th inning.

Wily Peralta with a 3.60 ERA on the day, take that haters!

Shouldn't that be in blue??? Hey we know he's got the stuff. It's all about command and getting through those first few innings. He avoided the meltdown this time. Hope he can build on it and we see the Wily we know.

And Thornburg with the well deserved win.

Baseball Logic

Such a ridiculous stat, lol. While wins probably shouldn't be associated with a single pitcher regardless, if you really want it as a pitcher stat, I wonder if simply changing it to the first pitcher to leave the game with the lead (in a game where their team ends up winning) as the the criteria would cancel out the majority of these silly results. It would give the starter the best chance to receive it (who almost always is the pitcher with the most innings/greatest affect on the game) and won't discount him as much for all the scenarios that are out of his hands once he leaves.

See at first I understand not to give it to Peralta because he didn't do enough to make the Brewers win, but then again if he only goes 4 2/3 the official scorer can give it to anyone. So why can't we give it to anyone we want if someone like Thornburg really just blows the lead?

Why not just have no one win the game in that case!?

Good thing they are meaningless and no one educated cares about them.

Yea, he did flip them but still a good point. Nice to see Blazek is not just "pitch the 7th inning, only the 7th inning, and pitch the WHOLE inning" guy. Now get Smith and Knebel back and that's not a bad bullpen.

When will these guys be back?

Garza and Knebel have shown "scant" progress. Smith is still the same, hoping to avoid surgery. A week or so ago, he started jogging on an anti-gravity treadmill.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

Oblique are such mysterious injuries. Never know how long they'll take to heal and I have no idea why.
