2016 Minor League Regular Season Transaction Thread

Congrats to IF Nate Orf, who will be making his AAA debut after his transfer from Biloxi to Colorado Springs.

The Sky Sox will need to free up a spot by making a corresponding move on Friday.

The Colorado Springs roster decision on what to do with their 26th man after the Jungmann - Goforth swap can now be delayed a day or two until Jungmann officially reports to the team.

Via the Matt Erickson AUDIO interview at the Rattler Radio blog from Sunday's postgame, we learn OF Elvis Rubio, a 6th year 21-year-old (22 in July), will be moving up to Brevard County, congrats to him, we'll wait on corresponding moves, but Erickson indicates OF Troy Stokes (ankle) is just about ready to be activated.

Rubio signed for $95,000 out of the Dominican back in February 2011, and was a rare (for the Brewers) signee to not only sign at 16, but also see action in the DSL before he turned 17 in the midst of that first pro season.

Why does MILB even have roster limits/rules when you can easily just get around them?

It actually makes sense that MiLB loosened the reins on this issue a few years ago. Given the horrific scheduling and travel at the upper levels, the ups and downs from the major league roster, injury issues regardless of nature/severity, organizations would be what, releasing their third catchers across all levels, and scrambling to sign them as needed in a pinch, without the flexibility. Granted, there should be limits on how long healthy players can be kept on a "taxi squad" basis.

There's so much moving around between levels, rehab assignments, doubleheaders, and travel and since the goal of teams really isn't to win games it would just make sense to me that teams should be able to have as many guys as they want on the roster but only a certain number active per game.

Manatee OF Omar Garcia was placed on the 7-day DL to make room for Rubio. As that link shows, it's been a brutal start to 2016 for Garcia.

OF Troy Stokes was indeed activated at Wisconsin.

In another set of Timber Rattler roster moves, RHP Conor Harber was placed on the DL retroactive to 4/29; RHP David Lucroy was re-added to the Wisconsin roster to fill that spot.

While still waiting on official word, it appears Rattlers RHP Alex Farina shared some news on teammate Jon Perrin last evening...

We've had far too few lefties with a last name of Lee in AA for several seasons now!

In case you were looking for a reason to head to a T-Rats game.... http://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/baseball/news/brewers-trent-clark-headed-to-low-a/

That is an awful crowded OF (Denson primarily is used as a DH though) Wonder what they will do with playing time between Harrison, Stokes, Belonis and Clark?

While I'm on the subject, using Denson as a DH most of the time doesn't make him any better defensively. For a National league team, this seems a curious situation.

Suddenly it's a bloated 15-man Sky Sox pitching staff, as LHP Sam Freeman has been outrighted and RHP David Goforth will officially report from his optional assignment soon, so the Brewers will have to make two moves at the AAA level shortly.
