Lucroy Trades/Proposals (part 2)

Name your Catchers better than Lucroy. I couldn't name 10. Probably a hard time naming more than 5. The easiest to name is Buster Posey. Yadier Molina has aged and coming off injury seasons himself he at least Used to be better than Lucroy. Salvador Perez I'll name better than Lucroy. That's it. 3 players. 30 teams. 90% of MLB teams could improve their roster at C by getting Lucroy. Injury worries or not. He's a major upgrade on well over 50% of catchers in baseball. And a modest upgrade over a 1/3rd of them.

This goes on as saying why I'm not a fan of selecting a catcher 1st round of drafting as someone was being touted for selection last year. We have arguably the 3rd best catcher in baseball and that's for .770OPS/109OPS+ over 710games in 6seasons and 15.8BWAR.

Sure there are a few catchers that can be argued in Lucroy's grade, but they haven't proven their position. D'Arnaud, Mesoraco, Schwarber, Norris, Grandal and maybe Vogt. That is still putting Lucroy 10th if you try ranking these guys ahead of him.

It's why Stearns needs a HR prospect offer. He's giving up Elite for the position in baseball. It's like giving up Madison Baumgarner or Anthony Rizzo when you talk about the comparison of value to position.

I tend to think actual humor is funny, not opposing viewpoints. I don't get that message board tactic.

Exactly. Laughing at or LOL-ing the point of view of another member is inappropriate and qualifies as condescension. Moderators have been trying to get one member in particular to realize this, but it isn't sinking in.

There'd be more leeway if you want to LOL the point of view of a public figure. Dave Stewart comes to mind as an example.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

Lucroy is one season removed from being a (very deserving) top 4 MVP finisher. He started slow last year, had a bit of a dip in his power numbers, and finished the year strong.

Is he the 4th best player in the league? Nah. But he's definitely worth more than what he did last year, as long as he's healthy.

Lucroy, in my opinion, is a slightly above average catcher. He is not disciplined/mature enough to shut his pie hole. Making statements like he has to the media is not making him any more marketable for a trade. Luccccccccccccccc is still angry over not getting a contract extension. What do the Brewers brass know that the public doesn't know/see/hear?

Buster Posey

Salvador Perez

Yadier Molina

Francisco Cervelli

Lucroy

You could make an argument that Lucroy is better than Cervelli, you could make an argument that Russell Martin is better than Lucroy. Is Kyle Schwarber a Catcher? Supposedly he is going to catch at least one game a week this year. You could make the argument that Schwarber is more valuable than Lucroy considering age & potential

Anyways, yes, Lucroy is anywhere from the #3 Catcher in MLB to #7, in my opinion. Can't see him ranking lower than 7.

The trade value for him should be very high, especially now that he has proven in Spring Training that the concussion is behind him and he can still play the position at an elite level.

Jonathan Lucroy is arguably #2 in the entire MLB if we are looking at the next 2 years only. Would anyone be shocked if he put up 4 WAR each of the next two years? I sure wouldn't and only Posey managed that last year.

I mean jeez people 2 years ago Jonathan Lucroy was the best catcher(statistically) in all of baseball. I am no huge Lucroy lover, but the guy is one of the best at a horribly thin position.

Luc is might be one of the top 5 catchers in baseball. To say otherwise is not backed up in facts.

He can prove that he is this season by staying healthy and producing. Let's not forget how horrible he was to begin the year. While we can remember the mvp finalist year, we also have to take all of it in account, including injuries. He's done well in ST so far so hopefully he will be a top catcher once again so we can continue to stack young talent.

Is he really that "angry?" Or was he just lobbying for a pay raise, similar to what we'd do if we felt we earned one at our jobs? Dude was coming off an MVP caliber season and is making 2 mil a year, saw Russell Martin sign a 5/82. I'd ask for a raise too, it's just human nature. Lucroy has never been "paid" and he's hitting 30...don't think he isn't aware that catchers decline. The Brewers are just being cautious they don't end up with a Joe Mauer contract hanging around their necks...if Lucroy is healthy in 2016 I don't think it can be 100% dismissed that we wouldn't try to extend him at the right price.

In April he was brutal, no doubt. But in the 2nd half of 2015 he OPS'd 808. The only question in ST was is healthy and he has certainly proved that.

One of the recent articles on the Astros trade discussions had someone comment that Joe Musgrove was the centerpiece of the Feb talks that fell apart, not sure what to make of it, big guy with really good command, saying he could be a top of the rotation guy, no other pieces were mentioned

If he was the center piece talks fell apart in a few seconds.

Joe Musgrove was ranked 36th on Sickels top 175 prospect list. He would make for a fine centerpiece IMO.

He'd be more likely the 2nd or 3rd piece, not the center piece. He's 23, has a history of arm issues and has 100 innings of full season ball experience. No chance we'd move Luc for a potential middle of the rotation pitcher with that little experience and glaring health issues as a headliner. None.

Maybe next year when there's only 1 year of control left but no shot with the current situation.

I agree hopefully it be #1 type starter potential

The #Rangers get their catcher, Bryan Holaday from #Tigers with asking price too high to get #Brewers Lucroy.

They can still trade for Lucroy although I've always thought he wouldn't end up in TX anyway. They gave up nothing for a guy who will be a career backup. This guy doesn't impact their catching situation.

I admit my only knowledge of Holaday is from his stat lines, but he hasn't hit really at any level. If this means the Rangers are actually bowing out of the Lucroy chase, they're settling for a much worse player. I'd be surprised if they are actually out.

"Upon hearing the Rangers made a trade for a catcher, Jonathan Lucroy lept up from his bar stool at Joe's Pub in Phoenix and began to dance wildly. Then, after not hearing his name he slunk back to his drink and hung his head sadly, one lonely tear rolling down his cheek and softly splashing into his warm glass of Miller Lite."

I am standing firmly behind this being a reckless move to not trade him before opening day.

Catchers being traded at the deadline are rare for the reasons much discussed. I have to believe he will be traded shortly.

Well, I thought Luc would be gone by today. As people have noted, let's just hope he stays healthy and produces. If Stearns didn't like what was on the table for Lucroy, I'm willing to take the gamble that he plays well and nets a good trade deal down the road.

I don't think it's going to happen. As much as the Rangers could use Lucroy, it doesn't feel as though they want him.
