Darrell Ceciliani dfa'd by Mets

Ok, he put up Logan Schafer type numbers for the Mets in a small sample last year, but he also posted a .978 OPS in hitter friendly Las Vegas. He's a lefthanded hitter (a plus) and a very good defensive CF. Given the Brewers have a rather unimposing collection of candidates for CF, what's wrong with picking up this 25 year old to add to the competition?

Agreed JB12. I'm intrigued with this 25 year old with plus defensive metrics...can play all three OF positions.

Ceciliani is far superior defensively. Besides they already have Broxton who's somewhat comparable to Liriano with the bat and a better defender also.

Sure, however the Brewers already have 8 outfielders on the 40 man, which includes Nieuwenhuis and Peterson as light hitting left handed hitters that can play center. Who do you want to remove?

Not sure Niewenhuis & Peterson are really considered light-hitting.... They are not Logan Schafers. Given regular ABs, Nieuwenhuis offers 15+ HRs with really good defense.

 

Peterson can easily go. I'd take Flores or Reed over him as a back up in the corners any day.

I'm not saying to do this as you can't have so many auditioning for a job that it is counterproductive.

 

But if he is clear and free to any team, can't the Brewers pay him a little more with the understanding you aren't going on the 40 man roster until mid-camp or something along those lines?

The guy is worth it to bring in to camp at least. The more guys competing for these positions, the better. Plus all it will do is add depth (even though we have OF depth already).
