Richie Shaffer from TB

Former 1st rounder for the Rays. Apparently he's becoming the odd man out in Tampa. He's only 24 and was initially a 3B and then moved to 1B/OF I would assume because of Longoria. Made his MLB debut last year and wasn't great - .699 OPS in 88 PA but had a great year in the minors where put up a .897 OPS between AA and AAA. He was never a top 100 anything. MLB.com lists him as Tampa's #11 prospect and just named him the #8 3B prospect in baseball. He's blocked by Longoria at 3B and Tampa seems more interested in Loney/Pearce at 1B. Tampa's not known for trading prospects so maybe they'd be interested in an OF prospect. He could fill the organizational black hole at 1B or 3B.

Prospect for Prospect, Tyler Wagner if he doesn't appear that he can move ahead of Davies, Lopez, Hader, Houser? Wagner could always go back to the pen as well (college closer).

Proud member since 2003 (geez ha I was 14 then)

FORMERLY BrewCrewWS2008 and YoungGeezy don't even remember other names used

TB has been trying to unload Loney, who's entering the final year of his contract so I'm not sure Shaffer is totally out of the picture there. That being said, he's no lock to project as everyday first baseman either and they may make him available. His minor league numbers are good, maybe even very good but not great. Worth a prospect in the Brewers 15-20 range? Sure. He's likely below average defensively at 3B but Brewers could live with a year to see for themselves and if he really hit, 1B becomes a viable option.

Shaffer is an interesting player, certainly worthy of consideration to acquire.

Tampa could certainly use Lucroy, but Shaffer wouldn't (shouldn't) be the centerpiece of any such deal. Add him in a deal with Blake Snell, and you're talking about something of interest.
