Alfredo Simon

Okay, he'll be 35 in May and coming off a season where he posted a 5.05 ERA. But look a little deeper and there's some real value there. In roughly a third of his starts (10 of 31), he put up ace-like performances allowing 1 or no ER. His bad starts were bad admittedly but he still had lock down ability from time to time.

Given his age and overall performance in 2015, and lack of interest so far, he might be a real bargain. If the Brewers are looking for a starter other than Garza that can allow further development of young arms and delay arby clocks, plus have some trade potential later in the year, Simon might be a good bet.

You absolutely NEED Garza out there if you ever want to get ride of him and his contract. You put him out there a pray he regains form and value. If for whatever reason Brewers were to decide not to put him out there (I can't think of any reason outside of to give a young arm a chance to not start him), you would simply fill it with Thornburg or Pena who both have proven they can be effective starters. I don't see any reason why instead of Thornburg or Pena you would bring in a 35 year old guy who will pitch good 1 in every 3 games he pitches.

Brewers don't need a SP. They need Garza to be white hot for a couple months then trade him. Still leaves Nelson, Peralta, Jungmann, Davies + Thornburg/Pena (Cravy sucks but he can eat innings if need be as well as Burgos - neither are part of the future rotation anyway). Lopez, Hader will be eating up spots in the rotation soon enough and potentially Wagner.
