Amateur Scouting Department Shakeup

Brewer Press Release:

The Milwaukee Brewers and Jack Zduriencik, Senior Assistant to the General Manager and Director of Amateur Scouting, today announced the hiring of the following Amateur Scouts:

Rene Mons - New England

Ed Fastia - New York / New Jersey

Brian Sankey - South Texas / Louisiana

Kevin Ellis - North Texas / Oklahoma / Kansas / Missouri / Arkansas

Josh Belovsky - Southern California

***

Jesse Levis, who scouted the northeast for one year (2006) has left to join the Red Sox pro scouting ranks, I believe. Rene Mons is a former assistant scouting director with the Padres and has worked as San Diego's northeast guy as well. Ed Fastia, who was a part-time New York scout, moves into NY/NJ, as the Brewers now split the "Northeast" into two sections.

I believe Brian Sankey was a Dodger first base farmhand out of Boston College in the mid 90's, and recently was an assistant coach at BC.

Some info on Kevin Ellis from this Texas community college:

Josh Belovsky was a Red Sox farmhand in 1999 and 2000 (reliever), and also has coaching experience on the amateur level.

Scouts Ray Montgomery (South Texas), Jim Stevenson (KS /OK, etc.), and Bruce Seid (Southern Cal), previous scouts in the areas noted above, remain with the organization. Montgomery and Seid are now cross-checkers for their region, and Stevenson has joined the pro scouting staff.

Earlier this offseason, former Brewer pro scout "J" Harrison became the Reds director of professional scouting.

I've plugged it too many times in the past, and it was written nearly five (wow, five) years ago, but the definitive article on life as a Brewer amateur scout, at least as told by yours truly http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Technically not draft-related, as it's on the pro scouting side, but in addition, Toney Howell was named a special assistant to the GM for the Dodgers.

Howell, who joins the Dodgers from the Milwaukee Brewers organization where he was a professional scout, has spent time with the Rangers and Cubs in their respective scouting departments as well.
