wow, taking the UWM CF. The Brewers seem intent on picking the quality guys in WI this year. Could he be another Brady Clark/Vinny Rottino?

Loading up on arms, but were are the Canadians this year?

Cool. We picked up Mike Goetz from UW-Milwaukee in the 25th round. I don't follow college baseball at all, so does anyone have a scoop on him? I thought I read somewhere that he led Division I baseball with like a .470 batting average...

Just a formaility until the UW-Milwaukee senior signs his contract:

June 7th, 2006

Senior goes in 25th round to hometown team

Senior Mike Goetz of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee baseball team has been selected in the 25th round of the Major League Baseball Draft today by the Milwaukee Brewers.

Goetz, who was named an All-American last week, becomes the first Panther to be chosen in the MLB Draft since 2002.

"It is really just a dream come true for me," Goetz said. "It has always been a goal of mine, but it just seemed so far-fetched at times. It was never a given and something that I had to work for the whole way."

Goetz just finished his senior season at UWM, earning Horizon League Player of the Year honors as well as being named a member of the All-League First Team. He reached base safely in all 57 games during the season, recording hits in all but two games. He put together hitting streaks of 32 and 27 games, concluding the season with a school-record .493 batting average, which currently leads the nation. In addition to the nation's best average, he also tops the country with his .579 on-base percentage and 111 hits.

"It has been an honor for me to work with Mike and has been exciting to see what someone can accomplish when they put their mind to it," Milwaukee assistant head coach Scott Doffek said. "This has been a dream of Mike's and is an honor for Mike and for the program. The Brewers are getting a quality individual and player."

Goetz becomes the 15th different UWM player to be drafted in the history of the program. The last, John Vanden Berg, was tabbed in the 35th round of the 2002 draft, also by the Brewers.

"It's just unbelievable," Goetz, a native of Franklin, Wis., said. "And if I had to choose a team for it to be, it would defenitely have been the Brewers."

Both Goetz and teammate Joe Nowicki, who signed with the Baltimore Orioles last week, will find out their minor league assignments in the next few days.

A couple of quick things.....I was at the game yesterday, saw Goetz hit, and thought he looked ok. No power in batting practice, lots of grounders, showed some opposite field gap power....he was in same round with Jenks and others, so must have been a thrill for him.

Next, finding info on D'amico was difficult, but found this info from his junior year

www.msasportsnetwork.com/...=1&id=3515

Jesse D'Amico, batted .500 with team-highs in home runs (6) and RBIs (26).

"He's a solid ballplayer all the way around," Mohawk coach Archie Donofrio said. "One of the big things about him is being a team leader.

"When you're the catcher, you have to have that leadership. I have to have that confidence in him telling me what's going on."

According to Donofrio, D'Amico, a junior, calls the pitches and does it well.

"Defensively, he's a tremendous catcher," Donofrio said. "He has a strong arm, blocks the ball well and does a great job in controlling the ball as well."

The Warriors feed off D'Amico's explosive bat.

"He really came on strong at the end of the season and was hitting the ball well," Donofrio said. "Jesse can go to the opposite field or pull the ball."
