Dodgers Designate Daniel Fields for Assignment

Just read that on MLBTR.

Didn't think he'd make anyone's 40-man roster going into Spring Training.

Fields is a plus defender. Struggled hitting in AAA in both '14 & '15. Has a fairly good walk rate but doesn't steal a ton of bases. Had a 1.000 Fielding percentage in 2014. Career .990 Fielding % as a minor league CF

 

Bats left, throws right. He had a really weird reverse split in 2014 where as a LH hitter he couldn't hit RHP (.198) but hit .286 vs LHP in AAA. He hit .302/.370 /.470 vs RHP in AA ball in 2013

 

Wouldn't shock me to see the Brewers give him a shot. He'll only be 25 next year

Everything I've read about him says he's a below average CF and that was the consensus in the thread about his waiver claim too. I feel Stearns dumped him before because he didn't want him. I doubt that's changed in a month.

If Fields clears waivers, the Dodgers can just outright him to AAA. He doesn't have enough service time to decline.

Yep, if the Brewers want Fields they need to DFA someone else and claim him on waivers. And then probably DFA him again in hopes he gets through waivers so they can outright him to the minors.
