Aroldis Chapman traded to NYY

The Yankees have announced the trade. Davis is indeed in the deal, and he’ll head to Cincinnati alongside third baseman Eric Jagielo, second baseman Tony Renda and right-hander Caleb Cotham.

Jagielo is #6 in the Yankees' system and Davis is #10. I'm not to familiar with the other two prospects but it appears to be a lesser haul than what the Dodgers originally offered.

Good to see that Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez, Jorge Mateo and Greg Bird were not included and we won't see them so often the next 10 years.

Last two trades(Chapman and Frazier), seems like many people are saying the Reds didn't get the haul they should have, good for the Crew.

Be interesting to see what discipline the league takes on Chapman and how that effects his free agency.

Might also explain why the Brewers trade action is so low recently. If the trade value is that low on those guys one has to wonder if the same thing is going on with the likes of Lucroy or Davis.

There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

Little light on the return. Davis and Jagielo look like interesting players, but nothing special. No 'sure thing' or no player that just reeks of high upside.

I have a feeling Chapman hurt his trade value quite a bit with the abuse allegations - Reds probably should have dealt him earlier - but hindsight is 20/20.

Yankees will have a beast of a bullpen - Chapman, Miller and Betances - probably the best 1-2-3 in the majors.

On paper at least it could be the best 1-2-3 in History. Considering that Betances can often go 2 innings, that could mean that most games are over if the Yankees have a lead after 5 innings.

"Ks per 9 IP among relievers last yr: 1. Chapman 15.74. 2. Miller 14.59. 3. Betances 14.04 #Yankees. Yep. NYY has top 3 now."

The new domestic abuse policy instituted last year has had a big effect on the likes of Chapman and K-Rod and the willingness of GMs to give up value for them in trade. Look at what Kimbrel was traded for (and his salary), and then look at what Chapman and K-Rod were traded for.

Chapman was never charged so I can't see any way he gets suspended. However, the return is pretty underwhelming even considering the off the field stuff with Chapman. I feel like the Reds could get more if they waited until July to trade him.

Criminal cases have little bearing on administrative charges. Actually there is less of a burden of "proof".

Reading some different articles around the web, it sounds a lot like Chapman's value was really affected by the abuse allegations. Pretty much everyone was underwhelmed by the return.

I did read a couple of people saying that the Reds should have kept Chapman until the deadline, when someone likely would have overpayed in the heat of a pennet race. Or they should have just kept him and taken the comp pick next year - it'll likely be more valuable than the guys they got back. Of course, that would have meant paying Chapman next year, which Cincy seems to have really wanted to avoid.

I guess with the Reds in our division, we should be happy for the return, but it just reeks of a missed opportunity.

There's no way he should be suspended if he wasn't charged with anything. The MLBPA would make such a big deal out of this and Manford would come out looking like Goodell with deflategate.

Yup, 30 games. He went from 45 to 30 by agreeing not to appeal. I still don't like the precedent this sets by suspending players without conviction or even charges being filed. Jose Reyes has got to be suspended for at least a full season based off of this.

Reading the article, he acknowledged that he fired 8 shots from a handgun in an enclosed garage (in a building in which there were known to be people) during the "incident".

Here's a solution if you don't want to get suspended. Don't choke people, and don't randomly shoot guns indoors when you're pissed about stuff.

Lifetime ban should be in order. Peter Rose gets banned for gambling and this clown gets 30 days for unlawfully discharging a firearm....seems legit

He didn't unlawfully discharge a firearm because he was in Florida, and apparently you can shoot a gun any darn time or place you want in Florida.

So I demand that you get a 3 day ban from Brewerfan.net for not knowing Florida gun laws better.

On appeal we'll knock it down to 1 day.

Chapman took the lesser ban because appealing and then losing would have effected his FA status for next offseason.

Thank god we can punish these individuals without needing a criminal charge. Seriously high profile athlete cases are rigged and they rarely get what us normal people would get. Too much money to get out of things.

Also I don't think the MLBPA had a strong case...if that was so they would have appealed.

Yeah it's a slippery slope but I don't think criminal charges necessarily has to be the automatic qualifier for a suspension. The league attempts to portray itself as a family friendly brand and wants to protect that brand. If a guy is a leader in the KKK he'll probably get kicked out of the league even though he hasn't done anything technically illegal.
