Grab Bag - List of 2016 Minor League Free Agents

As we do each year, we remind you about the grab bag that is the massive minor league free agent list provided by Baseball America.

 

The list of Brewers now gone matches the list we have been pointing to since mid-summer in our thread on that topic.

The guy that immediately jumps out to me is Jio Mier, former Astros 1st round pick and SS/3B/2B. Have to wonder if the Stearns connection will reap a benefit here.

 

Alex Liddi (KC) was a pretty well regarded prospect not too long ago as well, though if I recall he wasn't good defensively at third.

Guys I would be happy to see brought in on a minor league deal:

 

PITCHERS

* Carlos Pimentel - still only 25- put up great numbers at AAA

* Jhan Martinez- will be 27 and dominated AAA

* Alex Torres - was always an underrated prospect- has consistently performed well and still just 27

* Kyle Drabek - one time prospect, still 27 a backend starter in the MLB- not sure we need anymore of that type of depth though

* Neftali Feliz (listed as minor league free agent on MLB.com)- terrible year last year- but still 27 and one year removed from being considered a dominant relief pitcher

* Donn Roach- (listed as minor league free agent on MLB.com) - is just 25. low K rate, but also consistently low ERAs.

* Hector Noesi (listed as minor league free agent on mlb.com) - battled injuries the last few years, has been waiting for shot to put it all together

 

POSTION PLAYERS

* Franklin Gutierrez-OF - can play all OF positions and possible competition for a stopgap in CF

* Danny Dorn-1B/OF - late bloomer, best hitter in AAA last season

* Matt McBride-C/OF- big bat, but classic AAAA player

* Domonic Brown-OF - still a lot of talent- probably will not realize it if hasn't but now, but worth bringing in for spring training

* Hak-Ju Lee-UI - still young, was a good prospect, could be a good utility infielder

* Grant Green- U - can play all over the field, still a lot of potential unrealized

* Luis Jimenez- UI- another go round?

* Connor Gillaspie- 3B- possible AAA depth

 

BREWERS- Still hope we bring back (in order of preference):

Johnny Hellweg

Jarret Martin

Juan Centeno

Preston Guilmet

Matt Clark

Manny Barreda

Cesar Jimenez

Reno is a hitter's paradise so I take his numbers with a little bit of skepticism, but I'd like to see Dorn in Maryvale. If Lind is dealt a Dorn/Rogers combo at 1B might be pretty productive.
