Tommy Hanson Dead at 29

Zach Klein of WSB in Atlanta is reporting per an MLB source that Tommy Hanson has passed away. I read earlier this evening that he was in a coma but didn't have any specifics on what happened. Really tragic news about a once highly touted arm. Best wishes to his family in their time of grief. RIP TH.

The kid looked like he was going to be a star before all the injuries.

The reports aren't giving any information on the true cause, and haven't included lines like "cause is unknown pending results of toxicology tests". That could mean that the family doesn't want any further disclosure. It is their right in their time of grief. However, disclosure could help other people at risk.

 

My speculation would be one of:

Drug OD,

Suicide,

Infection (MRSA, pneumonia)

From an article I read this morning it said a cocaine overdose.
