Brewers Farm System All-Stars

clancyphile

I'm going to create an All-Star Team of Brewers' minor-leaguers. To be eligible, they had to have been in the system at the end of the season. It's kinda arbitrary on my part, but maybe this kicks off discussion.

C: Adam Weisenburger, Biloxi

- He was simply an OBP god with a cannon arm. He's been at Biloxi the last three seasons, and perhaps it is time to see what he can do at AAA.

1B: Garrett Cooper, Brevard County/Biloxi

- A doubles and OBP machine in the tradition of Lyle Overbay and Jeff Cirillo, Cooper mostly played first base, but had some playing time in right field this year, and at third base last year.

2B: George Iskenderian, Helena

- Speed, hits for average, and some OBP skills.

SS: Orlando Arcia, Biloxi

- The Opening Day 2016 or 2017 shortstop for the Brewers. But can he develop power?

3B: Nathan Orf, Biloxi

- Showed an ability to get on base, and mostly played third base.

OF: Trent Clark, Arizona/Helena

- Speedy professional hitter did not disappoint.

OF: Brett Phillips, Biloxi (with Milwaukee)

- Looks like a complete offensive package who can play center field.

OF: Demi Orimoloye, Arizona

- Flashed massive power in brief Arizona stint before joining Team Canada.

DH: Michael Reed, Biloxi/Colorado Springs

- Brings speed, OBP skills, and can play any outfield position.

Starting Pitcher (RHP): Jorge Ortega, Brevard County/Colorado Springs

- Simply dominated at Brevard County, then did well in one AAA start.

Starting Pitcher (LHP): Brent Suter, Biloxi/Colorado Springs

- Broke out big. Just got outs.

Relief Pitcher: Damien Magnifico, Biloxi

- Could be in-house replacement for K-Rod in 2017. Maybe even sooner.

SECOND-TEAM

C: Carlos Leal, Wisconsin

1B: Nick Ramirez, Biloxi

2B: Yadiel Rivera, Biloxi/Colorado Springs

SS: Jake Gatewood, Helena/Wisconsin

3B: Yerison Pena, DSL/Helena

OF: Victor Roache, Brevard County/Biloxi

OF: Clint Coulter, Brevard County

OF: Troy Stokes, Helena

DH: Steve Karkenny, Helena

Starter (RH): Jorge Lopez, Biloxi

Starter (LH): Josh Hader, Biloxi

Reliever: Brad Kuntz, Arizona/Helena

C: Dustin Houle, Brevard County

- Now healthy, may be the first true catching prospect in system since Lucroy/Salome. He has a very good bat and is a solid developing catcher behind the plate. My guess is we will see him AA next season where he will be about league average for age. Brewers were aggressive with him and have since he was 17 but just has never been able to remain on the field

1B: Garrett Cooper, Brevard County/Biloxi

- Overbay 2.0. Guy hits and gets on base. I'll gladly take that over a 30-40 HR guy who its for no average and can't walk.

2B: Chris McFarland

- Maybe the most consistent and productive 2B we have in system. Not great at anything but very reliable and good at everything. Could be a sneaky MLB starter someday.

SS: Orlando Arcia, Biloxi

- 2 way stud SS who has shown power potential despite being thinner than a runway model. He is young and as his body fills out (he has frame to fill out nicely) the power should come.

3B: Yadiel Rivera, Biloxi/Colorado Springs

He continues to breakout and it appears his opportunity will come at 3B. No one else worthy at 3B in system outside maybe Orf or Brennen-Smith

OF: Trent Clark, Arizona/Helena

- As professional as a high school hitter comes. He is the definition of a complete ball player. He is good in all aspects of the game and is arguably the hardest working player and who hustles more than anyone in system. Not to many guys will even run back to dugout after they strikeout.

OF: Brett Phillips, Biloxi (with Milwaukee)

- If he can keep that power coming and lower those K's a bit, he have a very nice

OF: Monte Harrison, Helena/Arizona

- Demi doesn't miss by much but what Monte was doing prior to his injury.....Wow! Scary to think, the way he was starting to play was him only scratching the surface of his true potential.

DH: Michael Reed, Biloxi/Colorado Springs

- Complete baseball player who will help out at the MLB level next season. He offers a lot to this team.

Starting Pitcher (RHP): Jorge Lopez, Biloxi

- Simply dominated at Biloxi and is best pitching prospect to come up since Yo (since they are very comparable)

Starting Pitcher (LHP): Josh Hader, Biloxi

- He is limiting his walks from being a potential Ace #TrueHaderHomer

Closer: Yhonathon Barrios Biloxi

Converted SS, small in size, not in arm strength. All he has done is impress since arriving in ARam trade! I'm talking at Biloxi, MLB, and now AFL. Brewers went for a boom or bust RP and seems like they may have a great decision!

SECOND-TEAM

C: Carlos Leal, Wisconsin

Great Defensive catch who did a lot to help the young staff this year, more impressive was his consistancy with bat for a converted pitcher.

1B: Tyrone Perry, Arizona

-Power is graded by some at 80....hopefully the Brewers find him a treadmill though as he now weighs 300 in Fall Instructional....

2B: Franley Mallen

- Really came on this year after being held back from joining his peers stateside. Performed well at Helena in small sample. Interesting to see if he makes Wisconsin or will stay in extended ball and open up in Helena

SS: Jake Gatewood, Helena/Wisconsin

He crushed the ball at Helena and hopefully he is ready to breakout in Wisconsin in his 2nd chance. Still very young but making strides. Needs to learn to shorten his swing.

3B: Nathan Orf, Biloxi

- Default choice since our 3B selection is awful. He is a guy who very well could become a MLB utility player. He gets on base, is versitile in the field, and just a solid baseball player.

OF: Victor Roache, Brevard County/Biloxi

Power is there, he took steps in right direction overall as a hitter. Overall he is simply Khris Davis 2.0 with a stronger arm.

OF: Clint Coulter, Brevard County

People can bash him all they want over the season he had but really, he was doomed. He will breakout and mash in Biloxi next season. Ball doesn't move or carry in the air at all in BC, if you are not a line drive or slap hitter, you are in trouble

OF: Joantgel Segovia Arizona/ Helena

maybe the best pure hitter in entire system. I could care less if he even hits a double, triple, HR in his whole career. If he just hits and gets on base at the kind of clip he has so far in his young career, we will be just fine/

DH: Troy Stokes

-A younger version of Michael Reed. Well rounded, complete player. High OBP, speed, Solid defender, decent pop, has Potential to hit for average.

Starter (RH): Jorge Ortega, BC

Couldn't strike out a fly but he has full command of all pitches, is crafty, young, and a workhorse

Starter (LH): Kodi Mederios, Wisconsin

This forum is so split on Kodi however being 18 most of the season pitching in Wisconsin with pretty good results is pretty outstanding. Didn't give up a single HR all season. He is simply a thrower right now but if he can learn to pitch, he has a high ceiling.

Closer: Damien Magnifico, Biloxi

-If he could just develop a second pitch, he could actually K a few guys and be a lights out MLB closer.... but has nothing but a 100 mph fastball

Are you sure about that? I've heard he has some power, but I've not heard of anyone giving him an 80 grade for it.

Wish I remembered which link it was, might have been a baseball america article that mentioned it. His power seems to be real deal. I also believe he is Dee and Nick Gordon's cousin.

Edit: Here it is- http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/2015-draft-report-card-brewers/

BEST POWER HITTER: At 6-foot-1, 265 pounds, 1B Tyrone Perry (12) was one of the biggest players in the 2015 draft and he had some of the draft’s best power; scouts have thrown an 80 on his raw power. He showed a solid approach in his debut with a good understanding of the strike zone to go with a swing with leverage.
