20-80 Baseball scouting report on Josh Hader written by former Baseball Prospectus prospect contributer Jeff Moore. The site launched this month and while there are only around 20 player scouting reports written so far it appears it will develop into a nice resource for prospect evaluation.
Not just “at Night” anymore.

The more scouting reports on Hader not calling him some future ace the better. Too much talk about people thinking he is going to save the franchise and be the ace we have not had in years.

Looks like it could be a solid site some day.

As we head into 2016, I'm literally more excited about studying the minor leaguers' growth more than anything. Every year is important for an organization to be sure but in many ways this year will tell us a ton.

*Jake Gatewood. He struggled at A then came on when he returned to rookie ball. He needs to polish his offensive game, be patient, go the other way, tighten the swing. Can he really turn it on in the Midwest League the second time around? He loves baseball and seems like a great kid. He seems to really relish leadership. This could be a huge year for him to really establish himself. Dealing with pitchers that can control off speed repertoire is an adjustment. 3b seems like a natural fit for him and the organization. This could be a huge year for him to build momentum. Ideally he rakes there and gets promoted to Brevard at some point. That's a dream scenario.

*Clint Coulter. Had a nice breakthrough in 2014 but, in the pitcher biased Florida league, his stats on paper were not phenomenal in '15. He's a big kid and it will be really interesting to see where he settles in this year with his bat as he heads to Biloxi presumably. This is a big year for him too.

*Josh Hader. He's still young and has a lot of momentum with the scouting media and intelligentsia. Killed it in Arizona and is really being talked up. I'd love to see him build on it and keep rolling.

*Monte Harrison. Basically has outrageous tools at the outfielder position. Many of the issues discussed above with Gatewood apply here although Monte is also recovering from the vicious broken ankle.

*Cody Ponce. Reminds me of one of the Mets young starters as far as potential. This year will tell us a lot. If he rolls and advances we may really have something here.

*Trent Clark and Demi Orimoloye. It will be interesting to see how they fare in '15 compared with how Harrison and Gatwwood fared in '14. That comparison will be interesting.

Honestly, you could say much of the same for all of the prospects but those are a few I'm focused on as having watershed years next year.

Yeah I agree with all of that. It's a big year for a lot of these kids. We have such a deep & talented Arizona-Wisconsin group it will be really interesting to see who emerges. A lot of those kids like Franley Mallen are at the age where they are not rated very high yet but could explode up list if they perform.

I think Demi O will face a more Monte & Gatewood adjustment due to his lack of patience and proneness to Ks. Trent Clark I fully expect to hit ground running like Tyrone Taylor did. He has such an advanced approach at the plate, he will be successful.

Harrison once he went down and finally got settled down, he went one of those Rickie Weeks old tears for 4-6 weeks. The ones were all Weeks tools would click, he'd be hitting over .400, smoking ball everywhere, using speed on bases and overall just look like the best not just best athlete but player on diamond. Then he suffered the awful accident. Monte has that Weeks ability to be the best player on diamond any given day, at same he has like Weeks shown streaks where he can look clueless & awful.....overall I'd take an excellent, young defensive CF Rickie Weeks any day of week & just hope unlike Rickie, can develop some consistency

Via MinorLeagueBall -

Top Performing Starting Pitchers of the 2015 Minors, Per the FaBIO Statistical Evaluation System

Brewers fared well...

Good to see. No Brewer in the top 25 but we fill up the other tiers. If we can find our Glasnow or Gioloto, look out.

Internal breakout candidates are in the system. A grade jump for any of Ponce, D. Williams, Medeiros or Diplan would be huge. I will be shocked if the first three cannot find success in the FSL. You could even call Nate Kirby a deep sleeper.

I like our spot. Internal progression alone could make a huge difference and we have enough volume to have the odds in our favor.

Arcia is the #3 SS prospect on the MLB Pipeline list behind Corey Seager and J.P. Crawford.

http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2016?list=ss

Arcia has long been revered as one of the premier defensive shortstops in the Minor Leagues, but it was his breakout performance last season that has him ranked among the top prospects in the game headed into 2016. After making strides last offseason in the Venezuelan Winter League, Arcia, in his first taste of Double-A as a 20-year-old, led the Southern League with 37 doubles and ranked fifth with a .307 average. He also finished among the leaders with 157 hits (second), 52 extra-base hits (third), 74 runs (fifth) and 69 RBIs (fifth). Arcia represented the Brewers at the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game in July and was named the organization's Player of the Year after the season.

Arcia is a gifted defender, to put it simply. His soft hands, excellent range and strong arm could make him a Gold Glove-caliber shortstop early in his career, and there aren't enough good things that can be said about his instincts and overall feel for the position. Arcia has always shown a knack for getting the barrel to the ball, but the quality of his contact improved considerably in 2015 and allowed him to get to his raw power in games more easily. On top of that, his plus speed helped him accrue at least 20 steals for the third straight season, and he should continue be a basestealing threat at the highest level.

Arcia is a well-rounded player who offers plus defense at a premium position, and when coupled with his offensive upside, it could make him an All-Star. Scouts also love his makeup and maturity, and the belief is that those intangibles will allow him to make a smooth transition to the Major Leagues.

my new list after the recent trades - I have not changed most of previous comments, interesting to me how depth has been improved...

1. Orlando Arcia - I want him up in May....Barry Larkin is my statistical ceiling comp for him

2. Maverick Phillips - Maverick needs to be cultivated a bit yet...see him as a Grady Sizemore as a Indians rookie type of player

3. Trent Clark - if the 15 class was redrafted, I think he would go top 7 as of now

4. Jorge Lopez - I am unduly proud of my June 27th post...it really tells you how quickly he has risen in the eyes of many

5. Josh Hader - have him ranked this high even though his most likely landing spot is as a top notch shutdown reliever because: A) that is pretty doggone good all in itself, 2) I think there is still a chance he develops his secondary's to the point that he becomes Chris Sale part deux

6. Jacob Nottingham - After the deal I saw a couple of places that had him outside Brewers top 10 - that is hogwash....Nottingham is a fringe top 100 overall guy with a rare subset though he still has a lot to prove

7.Gilbert Lara - the stats mean little to me right now..his age for level is just silly and the first hand initial reports support this lofty ranking

8. Isan Diaz - I keep hearing comps for him that are a little startling - such as Cano and with bat speed of prime Rickie Weeks...I am hearing he is not a SS due to lack of arm strength so it was interesting that Stearns mentioned they are keeping him at SS for now

9. Zach Davies - did the Orioles corner the market on drafting skinny ass quality pitchers that end up with the Brewers?....Jimmy Key is my ceiling for him.

10. Michael Reed - excellent athlete that will 100% be a quality major league reserve...30% ish chance he becomes a solid starter in my estimation...tough guy to spot in rankings

11. Clint Coulter - power hitters that spend a full season in FSL should get combat pay

12. Rymer Liriano - I have him ranked pretty high but I think the Padres have completely mishandled him...i am very interested by what he can do from a speed/power metric

13. Tyrone Taylor - batted .340 during playoff run and is still regarded as Albert Almora type defensive outfielder.....

14. Adrian Houser - meteoric rise after the trade, but honestly, this is what he was supposed to be before underperforming as Astro...even so he was 21st ranked guy even with those below par Astro results in a super stacked Astro minor league system....no way he belongs in the 20's in Brewer prospect ranking given those facts...if our new GM had the profile of Jason Kidd, the same alegations that followed Kidd for the failed Larry Sanders for Lopez trade would be dogging Stearns - that Houston haul was so good...

15. Monte Harrison - if he gets all his speed back, just a dazzling type of player that I would love seeing play in outfield next to Clark for a decade or so

16. Devin Williams - this past year in Appleton was horrible, but it saw some extremely talented arms...Brevard is going to give up 7 runs all year next year

17. Cody Ponce - big guy with a mean streak....he will move at a rapid pace I believe

18. Marcos Diplan - Managers in Pioneer league loved him, even with control and results that made some dismiss him a bit....

19. Kodi Medeiros - scary prospect that can still boom, but needs velocity back to really excite me...should be noted that he did not give up any homers last year....

20. Nathan Kirby - i think this injury may have been a good thing for Brewers in long run....this guy has chance to be a top pitcher if he comes back to where he was before injury

21. Demi Orimoloye - Might be too low....hearing that more than one scout has said "holy crap" after seeing him in instructionals....if he ever collides with Monte Harrison in outfield, the resulting black hole created may suck up our universe

22. Keon Broxton - I think he is one of those types that needs an opportunity to shine over a full season to really show what he can do...would love to see him get 350+ at bats

23. Trey Supak - A guy picked in the supplemental 2nd round in 2014 right around time of Isan Diaz...he has the size and stuff to rise up this list rapidly..

24. Yhonathon Barrios - 7 innings - 3 hits - 0 runs or walks with 7 k's in majors is a heck of a debut...the fact he converted to pitcher late makes the fact he is still 23 even more remarkable....any chance he could convert to starter?

25. Jake Gatewood - still a believer...he has some tools that are pretty rare

26. Javier Betancourt - A guy that reminds me a bit of Frank White and others from a bit of a bygone era of 2nd basemen...with Isan Diaz onboard will be interesting how he is moved up the chain.

Honorable mention: A ton of talent still there such as Jorge Ortega, as well as Perry, Ventura, Leal, Cooper, Roache, Rivera, Wang, Diaz and Colleymore....

In case anyone is wondering, we'll plan on doing a new Top 25 toward the end of Spring Training or right when the season starts.

I have a feeling there will be a lot of moves right up to opening day. Already we have quite a few new players to consider, and I imagine there will be some more (plus a few departures).
