Back in the 1970s, the Saturday game of the week was a big thing. Back then, most teams that weren't the Cubs were televised about 40 times per season. In the case of the Brewers, much less than the full TV schedule was carried statewide, probably because games conflicted with network programming. Cable has opened things up. In the 1980s, ESPN started carrying games. And teams found that cable offered them the opportunity to be able to televise lots of games.

The plus side is that few games nowadays are actually unavailable. The downside it that games aren't "special" enough to supplant network programming. Cable has been a double-edged sword.

Regarding the antennas, if they work, your picture will be better than what you see on satellite or cable, and the difference will be obvious to the eye. As Baldkin says, an outdoor antenna is the most dependable option, although we've had members report that they've done well with attic installations. In the city, the majority should do fine with an indoor option, though. VHF channels could be problematic, however, most channels are UHF. In Milwaukee, Channel 10 (which people care about) and Channel 68 (which people don't care about) are VHF.

In the city, I've found that some indoor antennas work better than others. How well they work doesn't seem to correlate to price or whether or not they're amplified. Your best bet is to buy from a local dealer. That'll allow you to keep exchanging until you get one that you're satisfied with.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.
