Perhaps one of the mods could post a thread on the ML forum to alert people that we are doing our post season poll. We've done that in the past, and I think it helps alert people who don't visit the minor league forum often that there is a poll in progress. Thanks.

How many votes are we looking for for the poll?

We've got 20 so far, which is pretty good. I was shooting for at least 25. We had over 30 this past mid-season, but I'm just not sure how many people are hitting the boards at this time.

OK.

BTW, any surprises based on the ballots so far?

Nothing really earth shattering at first glance. Cravy and Wagner have really dropped - much of that is simply because we have better players - but also the growing realization that both guys have limited skillsets - thus limiting their upside.

Also, fewer and fewer votes for guys who project as part timers - Wren, Rivera, relievers, etc. Again, probably the simple fact that we have really improved our system over the last two years. The community tends to focus on potential impact players over guys that look like role players.

How many points will it take for someone to make the top 25?

It really depends on how many people vote. The more people that vote, the more points that are available, thus raising the number for everything.

Based on previous polls, if we have 25 people or so vote, something like 70 or 90 points will likley get someone around #25. But if we get 30 participants or more, it'll probably be near a 100 or more. It's hard to say.

This was really hard as there are a lot of players deserving to be in the top 25. This list looks a lot better than it did one year ago. There are still a lot of B's and C's in the top 25 but there is also at least one A type prospect and possibly 2 with Arcia and Phillips.

Love these threads. Thanks for organizing them. I think the collective wisdom lead to pretty good results. If you keep a tracker of the results and see how the collective results change over time, they probably provide a pretty good measurement of the farm system. You've got pretty astute observers (die hards) voting.

1. Orlando Arcia - possible all star shortstop. Darn near untouchable.

2. Brett Phillips - love that he's lefthanded. Lots of tools. Excited about him.

3. Jorge Lopez - looks like he's putting it together. Multiple pitches.

4. Trent Clark - "professional hitter". I think he will move fast and be a young major leaguer.

5. Gilbert Lara - we will see, but, based on how crazy young he is and his tools, we are optimistic. Long way to go.

6. Cody Ponce - this guy may fly thru the system. Honestly reminds me of some of the Mets studs at the top of their rotation. I think he could be a high end guy. Cross your fingers.

7. Zach Davies - not ranked high on ceiling, but based on how close he is and that he looks reliable.

8. Devin Williams - as he fills out, I think he can be a nice starter, probably mid to back end of the rotation realistically.

9. Demi Orimoloye - a bit high of a ranking but his tools are phenomenal and he can be a stud. Size, power, speed, and arm skill sets are all off the charts. Got to harness him with player development, which Stearns is all over. He exemplifies why I'm high on what Ray Monthomery did and I hope we keep Ray.

10. Adrian Houser - soared on my list because he seemed to surprisingly put it together after the trade. I believe he was drafted pretty high (2nd round off top of my head). Has size and good stuff

11 Monte Harrison - still young and has major tools. Was awful in Appleton but great in Helena. Lot of potential.

12 Josh Hader - another good arm with potential. I like Houser's raw potential maybe more, but Hader could end up being more consistent and reliable. Like that he's a southpaw. We will see.

13 Kodi Medeiros - young guy. May have been over drafted when he went 12th overall. Could be a reliever or loogy specialist. Good stuff. On the plus side, doesn't give up homers. But he's got the arm slot that's unusual and may just be a situational reliever.

14. Jake Gatewood - still super young. This is a kid that can put it together. This could go either way. If he puts it together, he could be a major star. Lot of talent. Long swing needs refinement. Was a disaster in Appleton but fine in Helena playing in a more age appropriate level for him. The next year may tell us a lot.

15. Michael Reed - always been an unsung guy, but he came out of high school and he really does have solid potential.

16. Clint Coulter - this kid is a total enigma. Even taking into account that he was in a pitcher friendly league, his bat is just not special enough as an OF. He moved off of catcher, but if I were him, I'd try to make my bones behind the dish. He's more special and unique as a catcher. As a right fielder, he's just a guy.

17. Marcos Diplan - very talented young guy. If the Gallardo trade ends up a plus, this is the kid that needs to come thru. But he's awfully young and has a long way to go.

18. Nate Kirby - supremely talented kid. I'd rank him higher but the TJ surgery gives me pause. Hopefully he comes back better than ever and soars up this chart. Won't be back until 2017 so he's got a long road to go.

19. Ty Taylor - another enigma. He's basically a .260 hitter without power. The only reason to rank him even this high is because of potential and he's a great athlete. He's likely going to repeat Biloxi. Hopefully he puts it together. Lots of talent here.

20. Victor Roache - Coulter, Roache, Taylor. : some high draftee bats have not progressed as nicely as we want yet. Roache has shown some promise. He hit a lot of homers at multiple stops last year but he's an all or nothing guy and that's not good enough frankly.

21. Yhonathan Barrios - love his arm. He looked great in Milwaukee after the call up. May have been a pretty darn good return for Aramis Ramirez at that stage. He has potential to be a mainstay in the bullpen.

22. Tyler Wagner - great minor league stats but can't translate it to majors yet. His stuff isn't dominant.

23. Damien Magnifico - a bit like Barrios. Power arm. Like his potential to be a good reliever soon.

24. Troy Stokes - recent 4th round pick with speed. If he can develop good OBP skills he has potential. Long way to go but there is a ceiling here so I put him on the list.

25. Taylor Williams - same deal as Nathan Kirby. This kid could be a dominant closer. Love his arm. I kept him on the list even though he is shut down for all of 2016 as I understand it. He could skyrocket on this list if he returns better than ever.

25. Carlos Leal (tie) - had to mention him because I like his story as a catcher turned pitcher reverted back to catcher. Hit pretty well.

25. Wei Chung Wang (tie) seemed to turn a corner the back half of last year.

This system needs multiple quality catchers. High end catchers. Badly.

Only one surprise. But even that one isn't a surprise. ;)

The decision to edit came after thinking more and more on the 2015 performances. The fact is, I'd probably consider my top two tied, but someone had to be #1 and someone had to be #2. Ultimately, it was Suter's Colorado Springs numbers that decided it for me as I kept thinking about it.

Colorado Springs is a place where pitchers ought to get clubbed like a baby seal in the Canadian arctic. Yet Suter wasn't. He's legit, and the numbers are far better than those of any other left-handed starter in the system.

1 - Orlando Arcia, SS - Beats out Maverick because his defense is a lock at SS.

2 - Maverick Phillips, OF - Only real question is long term at CF.

3 - Trent Clark, OF - Maybe a Tony Gwynn Sr type CF? High hit tool, ok power, ok defense.

4 - Kodi Medeiros, LHP - Highest ceiling of the SPs right now.

5 - Jorge Lopez, RHP - His make-up impresses me. I think he can exceed the back-end SP projections.

6 - Jacob Gatewood, SS - Lots against him, but its not stopping him. Still at SS and hitting well.

7 - Monte Harrison, OF - Heal well Monte...heal well.

8 - Gilbert Lara, SS - A little loss of luster, but still very young.

9 - Tyrone Taylor, CF - Not a good year, but I'm giving him a mulligan. 21 at AA is pretty young.

10 - Demi Orimoloye, OF - Drool... Now keep it up at A-ball next year.

11 - Adrian Houser, RHP - I believe in his ceiling. At worst, he is a good RP.

12 - Cody Ponce, RHP - I struggled to not put him in the top 10. I love finding those "gems" at small programs.

13 - Tyler Wagner, RHP - I love the guy, but I think he is maxed out. Will be a MLB SP, but more at the back end.

14 - Josh Hader, LHP - High ceiling, but low floor too.

15 - Michael Reed, OF - Has a chance at being a MLB OFer, but not a sure thing. A 4th/5th OFer at worst.

16 - Clint Coulter, OF - Really needs a bounce-back year. Brevard really limits the SLG, but still was kind of ho-hum.

17 - Wei-Chung Wang, LHP - Next year at AA will be a watershed test. Started blase', but woke up after being removed from the 40-man.

18 - Zach Davies, RHP - Lower ceiling, but at the cusp of the MLB level.

19 - Marcos Diplan, RHP - Smaller pitcher, but brings it.

20 - Carlos Leal, RHP C - Late starter, older player, but came from no-where. Aided in that there aren't any other catchers on the list.

21 - Devin Williams, RHP - Waiting for the Jorge Lopez "click" season.

22 - Cy Sneed, RHP - Hardly noticed SP that keeps producing as he moves up. Seems to have the "stuff" to go with the "stache".

23 - Ariel Pena, RHP - Late season, "Hello" from Pena. Always had the arm, but suddenly it came together. Hopefully it stays together.

24 - Tyler Cravy, RHP - Probably stuck as a 6th SP type.

25 - Jorge Ortega, RHP - Another pitcher to watch as he escapes the warm comfortable pitcher's blanket that is Brevard County.

--------------------------------------

26 - Garrett Cooper, 1B - I've kept my eye on him for the last couple years, but finally distinguished himself.

27 - Angel Ventura, RHP - Nice A-ball season.

28 - Victor Roache, OF - Starting to plateau and plateau too low.

29 - Yadiel Rivera, SS - Big improvements in his bat this year. I just don't think it will carryover to the MLB level.

30 - Brent Suter, LHP - Will need to be a "prove it" guy for me at the MLB level. It would be great to carry him in the pen and use him as an LOOGY/Long Man/6th starter to prove it next year. But didn't have the peripherals guys like Fiers had to make a low-end FB work at the MLB level.

31 - Taylor Williams, RHP - Obvious candidates to shoot up the board, but since he is out another year, I'll wait until he is healthy

32 - Nathan Kirby, LHP - Obvious candidates to shoot up the board, but since he is out another year, I'll wait until he is healthy

33 - Joantgel Segovia, OF - Someone to watch at A-ball next year (maybe R+?).

34 - Damien Magnifico, RHP - Best of our arms in the BP.

35 - Yhonathan Barrios, RHP - Second best, but neck-n-neck.

36 - Kyle Wren, OF - High floor/low ceiling at CF. 4th OFer

37 - David Denson, 1B - Great eye at the plate, great HR power, but just can't hit the ball regularly. Pujols did hand-eye coordination training at A-ball level. That supposedly helped him improve his contact.

Wow.. its been a long, long time since a Top 25 was that difficult to fill out (from the standpoint of competitiveness instead of "trying to find warm bodies to fill a spot").
