2016 Organizational Rankings

reillymcshane

I'm tried to attach a table I compiled of the various organizational farm rankings (and their sources) for each team.

No luck so I went with cut n paste approach. Sorry the columns don't line up nice

The source order goes: Baseball America, Baseball Prospectus, Keith Law, John Sickels, Minor League Baseball Analyst (a book), Prospect Digest (another book, great resource I must add), Bleacher Report, the final overall listing from milb.com, MLB Top Prosepcts and scoutingbook.com

PS: the only constant across all 10 sources is the LA Angels in dead last...

To hopefully make it little easier on the eyes..

At this point I have for overall system rankings: (Brewer rank on that source)

Baseball America - 9

Baseball Prospectus - 10

Keith Law - 5

John Sickels - 5

Prospect Digest (Book by Joseph Werner - a very good resource) - 6

Minor League Baseball Analyst (another book) - 20

Bleacher Report (Feb '16 ranking) - 9

MiLB.com (overall ranking) - 11

MLB Top Prospects - 18

Scouting Book.com - 18

This gives the Brewers an average of 11.1 and 11th place overall among the 30 teams.

I find it hard to believe that anyone can justify ranking them in the bottom half of the league. Even if those publications/websites put more emphasis on more advanced players it seems to me Milwaukee's depth would make up for it. Can you share how the 18, 18, and 20 rankings were justified?

I can't speak for justifications, only what they published for the world to see.

Additionally, some sources are hampered by timing.. Most books are sent to print in late Dec or early January so moves from later in the offseason can be missed. I think that was a huge difference for the Analyst book vs other sources...

Let me be clear- the Brewers have made great strides in the last 10 months, but before that (for many years) the farm system was in the lower quarter of baseball...

I firmly believe that the Brewers are on the right path but it's going to be about 5 seasons (2106 being the first of those) before they seriously contend again. They are lucky the Reds are in WORSE shape right now

Yes, and Sickels considered the Brewers as part of the elite tier of farm systems.

Consensus seems to have the Brewers in that 5-10 range of farm systems. I have to think they are #1 for future major league caliber player depth. Stearns is taking the cream will rise to the top approach with this rebuild. They don't have anyone yet who can hit like Mazara or pitch like Urias but the Brewers have a boatload of well-rounded prospects.

UGHHHH: The Angels get a special category of badness all their own.

30) Los Angeles Angels: The best Angels prospect, catcher Taylor Ward, wouldn’t be a top ten guy in most systems. Trades gutted an already very weak system and this is now a complete from-the-ground-up rebuild project. There’s no way to spin it: this may be the worst system in recent memory. Overview, click at your own risk. 2015 Rank: 28th

:laughing

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

I don't think I can make it to 2106 :(

If I had to guess I would say high volatility. We have quite a few guys with high ceiling but low floors. They could be stars, busts, or anything in between.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

  • 4 weeks later...

Did anyone see who Keith Law listed for his top 10 (or top 20) Brewers prospects this year???

I have seen where someone with premium access to the ESPN listed the players for the Indians (on another site) but I have not seen the names for the Brewer listing..

If someone can copy/ paste those names, I would appreciate it...
