2015 MLB Payroll discussion

10 teams will make the playoffs. On the last weekend of August in 2015, 4 teams in the bottom half of the league in payroll (Royals, Mets, Pirates, and Astros) have all but locked up playoff spots. Two other teams, the Twins and Rays, have climbed into playoff contention. (I don't honestly give the Rays much of a shot, to be honest though)

 

The Cubs are competing with a young team (13th in payroll), the Cardinals are not in the top 10 in payroll, and the Red Sox, Tigers, and Phillies are a disaster.

 

I'm not saying payroll doesn't matter. It does.

 

But it's nice to see that it's not the only thing that matters.
