From one of a number of MLB write-ups about the AFL All-Star game (this one from Jim Callis):

Damien Magnifico, RHP, Brewers. He matched Black for the most efficient inning, requiring just eight pitches in a perfect third. He averaged 97.7 mph with his fastball and whiffed Clint Frazier, the Indians' No. 2 prospect, on three consecutive sliders. Magnifico thrived after becoming a full-time reliever this year and will surface in Milwaukee quickly if he throws strikes as easily as he did in the Fall Stars Game.

He'll need a good slider to be successful in MLB, so this is a great sign.

Brett Phillips was 1-for-4, run scored in Team USA's 12-5 win over the D.R. in the Premier 12 opener.

And as Chris Mehring reported on his blog --

Earlier today….or tomorrow across the International Date Line as the case may be, Mexico beat Venezuela 6-4 and Martin Viramontes earned the win with an inning of scoreless, hitless relief in the bottom of the seventh as Mexico broke a 4-4 tie with two runs in the top of the eighth. Brandon Macias went 0-for-3 with an RBI. The RBI for Macias came when he reached on an error in the eighth to knock in Mexico’s second run of the inning.

VENEZUELA 7th - VIRAMONTES to p for SERRANO. YEPEZ flied out to cf (3-2 BBBKK). SIVIRA flied out to cf (1-1 KB). OLMEDO popped up to 1b (1-0 B). 0 runs, 0 hits, 0 errors, 0 LOB.

I just noted on Twitter:

#Brewers @NateOrf4 was officially removed from AFL roster on 11/9, hasn't played since 10/31. Hopefully beat guys will inquire and share.

#Brewers started Fall League with 4 position players - only Yadiel Rivera remains. Reed (knee), Phillips (Premier 12) & Orf (unknown) gone

Update via Adam Rygg (@BrewerNation) --

A source tells me that Orf had "minor surgery" now in order to be ready for Spring Training.

And now Tom H. indicates the minor surgery was abdominal in nature, 6-8 week recovery time, should be fine for spring training.

Thursday 11/12 Box

Surprise wins, 3-1

SS Yadiel Rivera, the Brewers lone position player remaining in the AFL, didn't start, but replaced the Yankees' Tyler Wade for unspecified reasons in the 4th.

Rivera would go 2-for-3 with an RBI (one K, one caught stealing).

Three Brewer pitchers (starting LHP Josh Hader, and RHP's Jacob Barnes and Damien Magnifico combined to allow only one run (Magnifico, who got the save) over seven innings. The trio combined to strike out seven with Hader issuing the only walk over his four innings. Unfortunately, no PitchFx via this Gameday, but enjoy the game log of their outings.

Enjoy those ERA's in the box linked above as well!

After more stellar work today, Brewers hurlers (the three above, plus RHP Adrian Houser) a combined 3-1, 1.47 ERA, 49 IP, 31 H, 8 ER, 18 BB, 53 SO this AFL season.

Did I hear right? Did they compare Hader to Bumgarner? Wow.

Throws a little bit harder than Madbum but has a ways to go to be as crafty. Madbum is in full control of his stuff and the plate but it appears Josh is getting there. Hopefully in 3 years, when people are talking about a young talented lefty with high ceiling and a goofy arm slot, it will be "he really reminds me of a Josh Hader or Chris Sale out there." I am an absolute homer for Hader and #1 member in his fan club. I honestly think he has #1/ #2 dominant SP written all him. His rapid growth every season has been incredible. Kid was drafted barely throwing 89-90 out of high school and was more of a 19th round, lets take a hometown kid type of pick. Came into their camp, lite it up and hasn't spot becoming more dominant as well. His command is a work in progress but has been improving. I remember when Verlander was drafted and most people thought he was going to bust because he had zero command. Command can be worked out. He has a 98mph fastball that is already hard to see with his arm slot. His slider is nasty and in AFL has been his top, most dominant pitch. Really if he can just get his third pitch to be average he could be an absolute stud.

Proud member since 2003 (geez ha I was 14 then)

Brett Phillips interview (49:03 minute mark)

Brewers No. 2 prospect Brett Phillips is in Taiwan representing Team USA at the Premier12 tournament, where Tyler is as well to call the international baseball showcase. The two talk about how Phillips got involved in this year's Premier12 tourney, overseas bat flips, his experience in the Arizona Fall League and what he took away from a 2015 season in which he broke out at the plate and was traded from the Astros.

***

Phillips is so personable it's off the charts. Best part of this interview is when he discusses his epic "embrace the culture" HR bat flip.
